Ocotillo (O-co-tee-yo) flower. These woody desert plants grow several tall (10 - 15') thorn-covered stems which flower on the tips in spring and sometimes again after the summer monsoon rains. Yes, they do have leaves - mostly just during the rainy season - one leaf above each thorn, which turns them completely green.
