The telescope house stands at Doddabette peak which is the highest point in Ooty. The Doddabetta peak stands at an altitude of 2623 meters,and making it possibly the best vantage point around the Ooty. The telescope house in Doddabette peak enable the tourist to get a better view of surroundings of Ooty. The name Doddabetta means 'Big mountain'
