While acknowledging that I am still on my monochrome fascination, my purpose in photographing and presenting this picture in this way is to highlight the rugged character of the rails of this fence. They are quite sturdy, and so a good look at the way they are joined may also be of interest. Note that broken bits of brick are used to prevent rot of the ground rail. This well-built and well-maintained fence is at the George Washington Boyhood Home Site in Stafford County, Virginia on the North bank of the Rappahannock River. The Washington family maintained a ferry service here for travelers coming from Washington, DC in the north and going to Fredericksburg which is just across the river. Thanks for coming to take a look!
