When a tree falls, in the forest, and there's no one else there, does it make any sound? I don't know, but it sure lets you know, if you're anywhere near. it. This is PreCambrian Shield country. All granite and limestone, so there isn't much depth to the soil. Trees roots spread out just under the surface, and most find cracks in the rocks, to anchor themselves. Unfortunately, the bigger the trees get, the more vulnerable they become, from their own height and weight.
