This is another from my sporadic antique series - it is Japanese from the period of 1891-1921. This piece stands 14" tall. The term "moriage" refers to the style of decoration involving the use of white slip paste as a decorative element. The background of the tankard is matte green and then the orchids are done in an enamel glaze and the item is fired. After that all the white decoration is applied to the handle, the base, the lip and outlining the leaves on the orchids. Absolutely everything is hand done and in Japan whole families were involved in decorating porcelain blanks. All comments and critiques appreciated.
