This is a type of wild foxglove at the prairie restoration. Foxglove Beard tongue is a gentle flower occurring naturally in meadows, prairies, borders of woods, and rich alluvial woodlands from Maine and Quebec to South Dakota, south to Alabama, Louisiana and Texas. This plant has a fairly broad ecological range, from open woods to meadows and prairies, but it reaches its greatest abundance in open areas. It is easily established in newly restored prairies, and can multiply quickly. This herbaceous perennial plant usually is around 3 feet tall, ranging 2-4 feet. Arrays of white flowers, tinged with pink or lavender, are displayed from branches at the top of the plant. The petals are united into tubes an inch or so long, with two lobes on top and three below. Stemless leaves are pointed and in pairs. (various sources)
