I always associate Lilacs and showers with spring. Today I hit the jackpot. This was taken this morning and it is a deep lilac I've been hoping to photograph for a while now. I may enter it in the contest. Here is some info from Wikipedia: "Between 1876 and 1927, the nurseryman Victor Lemoine of Nancy France introduced over 153 named cultivars, many of which are considered classics and still in commerce today. Lemoine's "French lilacs" extended the limited color range to include deeper, more saturated hues." This is a French lilac a few blocks from me. This dense shrub has deep purple flowers that bloom in May. The plant reachs up to 7 feet in height with a 5- to 6-foot spread. Lilacs are often considered to symbolize love. In the Chicago area the place to see lilacs is Lombard Illinois which is called the "Lilac Village". It has an annual lilac festival and parade in May. The village also contains Lilacia Park, a garden with over 200 varieties of lilacs, as well as over 50 kinds of tulips.
