Another member of the aster family - this is a native prairie pant here in the Midwest. I remember seeing it growing as a child and I always liked the rich purple color.It grows about 4-6 ft. tall, is very attractive to butterflies and provides a good food source in the late summer and into early fall. I always see it along railroad tracks and that is where I snapped this shot.
