This creek was originally named by Lewis and Clark as Willard Creek and in 1862 a group of prospectors renamed it Grasshopper Creek due to there being a huge amount of those insects. Gold was found that same year. The gold found in Grasshopper Creek was 90-99.5% pure, compared to other gold found elsewhere that was 95% pure. This is such a lovely stream, gurgles so quietly. A most wonderful place to visit.(I scanned this photo of mine, please comment)
