From deep in the Sierra Nevada mountain range on the John Muir Trail, California, looking NNW. To reach this point on a dayhike would be 28 total miles and 7000 feet climbing/descent roundtrip. From right to left this canyon used to contain an enormous glacier, with feeder glaciers flowing from the far canyon walls, creating what are called "hanging valleys". This is a site of a campsite we regretfully passed up because we had to hike farther that day, but camping here would have been magical. Google Map
