Oh.My.God. I've never seen anything like it. I'm finding it hard to believe that some of these aren't reverse-engineered from photographs.

They are rather good. I believe it's done by placeing a photo in the background, tracing the image then very patiently creating an incredibly complex mesh with the mesh tool.
I'd also imagine that it's broken down into areas with a LOT of layers.
Must take bloody hours and hours and hours!
I think I'll try it lol.

I took a look at bret monroy's site, and juding from what he says there it doesn't sound like he starts with a photograph. He says he uses illastrator to draw out most of the basic shapes and then goes into photoshop and does most of the rest.
