I'm still suprised at how some older members still use Internet Explorer.
As a result:
*Users are more prone to viruses
*Webpages that are dependant on IE that look terrible in any other browser.
*Webpages that follow standards can look terrible in IE
So why still use Internet Explorer? There isn't one advantage that I can think of.

tell us more...sincerely, as to why you feel ie is more prone to problems as opposed to firefox. { I actually use 3 diff navigators} one being netscape on occasion...
Guilty as charged. At 72 I guess you could say I'm one of those "Old" users. The "insanity" tag is also pretty much on target. I agree IE has been troublesome over the years, especially when combined with the Windows ME or 2000 operating system. But the notebook I use now has Windows XP and IE6 which thus far (knock wood) has had zero problems concerning virus and/or malware sneaking in. I've been using this setup for nearly a year now and with "Spysweeper" and Norton's Anti-Virus program I have had zero problems or infections. Of course faithful updating which in both those programs can be made automatic and downloadiing Microsoft's security updates has been the reason I'm sure I've been trouble free. You were born with computers as a way of life. I have no doubt you know more about them now at the age of 16 than I ever will. But had you been born when a radio the size of a juke box was considered a technological marvel, you might have a slightly different slant on things. The constant and extremely rapid changes in computer technology is difficult to keep up with and even more difficult to accept among those on in years. It can be quite intimidating. So I guess for me, the answer to your question is ... if it ain't broke ... leave it alone. No hard feelings young man ... your point is well taken but I'm afraid it's falling on those with a "hard of hearing" problem. :o)
Mugsy, the thing is IE IS broken. Even the latest version I don't trust. No hard feelings, but I still don't understand why people take the risk of using such an insecure and outdated web browser. Even the IE 7 beta I wouldn't trust, because it is so behind Opera or Firefox.

If you use Firefox as your default, you still need IE to open that occassional site that won't open in Firefox. As far as security, I have only heard one was better than the other (no one ever seems to be able to explain it). I love the tabbed browsing in Firefox, that is why I switched. Thunderbird however has crashed on me:-(
there is IE Tab .. an extension that will open a page in an IE tab (hence the name) .. you can point at a tab and right click and change rendering engines
Firefox IS more secure because it the security flaws are patched before they have a chance to get dangerous...unlike IE which gets patched only after numerous complaints...

No, Noah, I meant I took this too far, and I should'nt cross the line even more. To anyone that was offended, I'm sorry. I got carried away, and I admit it. So I think this thread should see the dead elephants =P
