I'm a daily customer at the Starbucks near my job. I go in and chat with the people who work there, some of whom I've seen there for years. As i started to get back into my photography, i was printing up some of my work (well, Target was :P) and i'd occasionally share it with them if it was slow in the store. Word got back to the store manager, as well as the district manager and....they asked me to display my work in the store!!! I'm kinda psyched, but i didnt want to say anything until it was finalized ( i had to wait for a release from one of the corporate offices) So as this is being written, I have a bunch of prints waiting to be picked up and framed. This is nothing too big or fancy, just a couple of prints on a small section of the wall where the cream and sugar counter is. But exposure of any sort is a step in the right direction..and who knows...? Just wanted to share that...keeping it to myself (for the most part) has been killing me. :o)
WOW... our little Rob is getting famous (hug).. just don't forget us little people here on Caedes when you start making the big bucks.. lol ;D
CONGRATULATIONS... that is fantastic news, your right any exposure is great, who knows where this can lead, lots of people will see your work... (can you put a price on them for sale? over here most places like that will put them up and you can sell them).. I'm very happy for you Rob.. (hug)
Just my luck ... of all the Caedes members, I had to threaten bodily harm to the one that winds up a "celebrity" ... Damn. Guess complimentary tickets to your first art expo is out of the question ... Huh ? Nice going Rob... Hope this leads to bigger and better things for you. (* leaves whistling ... "This could be the start of something new" *)
That is great news Rob, I am thinking about doing the same thing but, in my small town at a new coffee shop that just opened. I hope you sell some photos and keep me updated. Do give them 20% of your sales?
Yaaayyyyy Rob ! Congratz hon ! That's terrific news ! I hope you're able to sell the prints, that would be way cool ! Though any kind of exposure is the great kind ! And let me know if they're interested in fractals *wink*
Good for your Rob, couldn't happen to a nicer guy. If you could find a way to fit sex, drugs, and rock & roll all into one that's should be a big hit.LOL
Ohhh sure, as if ordering a coffee wasn't difficult enough at the counter ... now, it will have to be ... "I'd like a Venti Decaf Caramel Macchiato with a sky sun tree and cloud (in B&W) please. No .. wait ... hold the desaturation ... uhm ... I changed my mind, desaturated please." :o)
a portait of keith moon, iggy pop, or the like ought to fill that nicely :P. Les, i was thinking that particular piece went unnoticed or under appreciated. thanks dude. and Curt, if i put congo rats on my work, i'll have people thinking it's an ode to jackson pollack ;-)
Hey Rob! I just got back and was really happy to read this good news! That's a huge accomplishment, knowing all the red tape that must of been cut to allow the local Starbucks to get the ok. I hope it gives you great exposure & sales! Congrats buddy!!!
I would rather live my life as if there is a God and die to find out there isn't, than live my life as if there isn't and die to find out there is.

*update*
the first four photos have been selected by the store manager and me. three of them are posts in my gallery (perspectives, 1000 isles bridge, and world's fair marina) the forth is a derivitive of an image i also have in my gallery (cement crown) the version i'll be putting on display is B&W and a wee bit lighter to let the greys really have more of an impact. hanging will be tmrw afternoon, and get this... the manager wants to have a meet and greet with me, and managers from some of the other stores, and asked me how i'd feel about a Q&A....
in all honesty? not sure... i know my work is ok..some pieces less or more than others, but i'm far from the best photographer out there.. it was really just a case of me being enthusiastic about the pic's i took, sharing them with some of the people i BS with at Starbucks, and the manager finding out about it...and well..the rest is a blur...
if i missed anyone, thanks a million...by the way this is one of the reasons i've been such a slouch with comments and thank-you's ....currently looking at a pile of 234 items in my friends list
I meant to infer that aside from your obvious photographic talents, your self-promotional 'skills' seemed to be lacking. But I think I understand now ... you needn't shamelessly plug and provide links to your works ... they speak for themselves. :o)
omg... i know you're probably pulling my chain.. but i figured since the other three were linked, if they saw the fourth, they'd have an idea of what i'm displaying.. :|
Ohhh noooo ... I think we may need some collective sleep Rob.
I posted those links for you and was poking fun at just that ... your inability to do so for 'us' to have a look see. Hence, my poke at your lack of self-promotional skills the first go round. I got a little side tracked doing some other things on the site and came back to read your comment immediately following and felt a sense of dread and was trying ... trying to clear the air as soon as possible. I now see how that could have been misconstrued once you put up the other and final fourth link. I would have provided all four originally, but, didn't think it existed as yet on the site, given that you had said the fourth was a different version.
Nutz, this word thing alone can certainly fall off the tracks fast.
And yeah, I hoped and sensed you could take a little ribbing. I should know better when it comes to something this personal. No offense intended ... at all. You already or I hope you do, should know that they are the lucky ones to have your work grace their walls. It will be a most welcomed presence in the stores.
i can take ribbing, and zero offense taken...honestly. was embarrassed ( i got over it:P) for half of a split second, til it became obvious my chain was bein tugged...and hard. no worries..just momentarily puzzled.... *shakes head* hmmmph...canadians :P
Gotta put in my two-cents worth!....Many congrads Rob for exposing yourself!!!...to the customers of that cawffee bar!.......A true artist hardly needs encouragement, for the excellent work he portrays!......And I hope the sale of your fine images brings in the pennies by the million!...kindly remember who told you this????
*scratches head* i dunno..who told me? ;-) thanks Bob, and everyone else...they'll be put on display in a little while, once i rid myself of today's daily grime and dress like a civilized human being... as anything new develops, i'll keep you guys (and gals) updated :)
*update*
after a horridly long case of 'hurry up and wait' the pictures have just now gone up. among the delays: the condition of the wall behind the 24x32 poster that had previously been hanging there... the decision to paint or not paint it... one of the frames were dropped, and i didnt find out until i had to ask why it was missing... and so forth and so on.
one nice piece of news, though, is that the wall will be painted, and there's a small freebie community paper, The Queens Gazette (Cat'll probably know of it) that might be getting involved. Stay tuned :o)
Good for you Rob.....and good luck with the question and answer series......may I ask what size you have chosen to hang those beautifully chosen pieces at Starbuck's?
Wish I lived closer .....:(
