How do I set the correct size?

Iv got several iamges I would like to submit here, but I am unable to find out how to get the size right. My cammer takes iamges that are in size's up to 2300x2300. I need a program where I can "cut" out the size that I want so I can submit them here. Paint Shop Pro was suggested, but I dont want to buy it unless I really have to.

Any ideas? Thanks everyone, iv been comming here for years, this is the first time I have attempted to add my pictures.

You can do it with MS paint, although I haven't used it for years so I can't give you specific instructions. There are probably several freeware apps out there that are capable of performing such a basic function.

Ok, ill check that out. I tried MS Paint, it never works exactly how I want it to. I want to be able to Crop out the part of the picture that would be the best for its size.

For example if its a cloud, or sunset ot something, and you crop it with ms paint, its hard to get the right size and have ti be cented, on the center part of the image anyways..

Get what im saying?

You could try Photofiltre, it is quite similar to photoshop, and it is freeware...

Since nobody has mentioned Gimp, somebody ought to. Not only free in the sense of beer, but also in the sense of speech, it's available from http://www.gimp.org for Windows, Mac OS X, Unix and as source code. It can be enhanced by plugins, scripts etc.

If you're on Mac OS X, you need X11 installed or you can use the spin off which is called GimpShop, I think.

Inkscape is another option but I haven't used anything as much as Gimp.

It's second in the list under Other Software in the FAQ. So I did mention it! Kinda.

I have irfanveiw, how do I crop with this thing? I always use to it to resize, but in this case that would mess up the quality.

edit menu .. "create custom crop box" .. enter the size you desire

move the "custom crop box" with the right mouse button

NOTE: .. pressing the "F" key will shrink the image to your screen (without actually resizing) and allow you to see what you are doing ... and the crop will still work
