Taking a shot for adoption

For those of you who like photographing people, this is an article about the impact that professional photographs have had on seeing foster kids get adopted. Just wondering if at a local level they might need volunteer photographers to help? (Has anyone done this??). Anyway, here's the article (I'm not affiliated with whomever is doing this, I just read the article and thought "wow, what nice people in this world!") - cheers, Quiet

Hey, that is great. I had forgotten how to make a link; I should've looked it up in the FAQ. Thank you, purmusic.

Anything that helps a cause such as this is a terrific thing to do...
On our local news shows, they feature stray animals...and claim that almost every one gets a home because of the feature. It certainly would be great to imagine children could also be helped in such a way. I could never be a foster parent. My heart would stay so broken. God Bless those Foster parents who do it for the love of kids....

My sis & her hubby now have four kids all-adopted. Two boys, two girls; the girls adopted as newborns, the boys as grade schoolers. The one girl has just started college this year!

My best friend's family fosters kids for the fun of it. They only foster them until a permanent home can be found, though. But if I were a foster kid, I would definitely like to stay there. They're such, nice people, they are. And they have a lizard called Doris.

I'm pretty sure I could deal with the responsibility of adopting a lizard... maybe...

Since I've never lived without the feeling of a permanent family (good or bad!) I cannot imagine what life is like as a foster child. Moreover, what life is like as a grown up foster child who perhaps never did have a permanent family. These must be the people in the world with the most strength and courage in life - I could learn from their lessons. Anyway, thanks for all the beautiful sharing. Hoping to see more of it, but even if not I've enjoyed it :-)

Long ago....well...not that long ago....but before I had my own children, I was dating a guy who's Mom was a Foster Mom. There was a beautiful child there named Amy...who was 4. From a severely abused background. I totally fell head over heels for her...and wanted to adopt her and make her the happiest child on earth. I contacted the social workers and made a true attempt....but did not qualify because I was NOT married. They actually returned that child to the mother and stepfather who BOTH abused her.
They claim that everyone has a right to get a second chance. I sure hope Amy did.
I think of her always.

I have worked as a therapist with foster children. The assumption is that foster parents come and "rescue these kids" from their ole lives. The kids miss the smells of their old house, they love their ratty loved doll more than the new one you gave them that they did not pick out. The miss the smell of their house, their friends, their yard and their school. They are somewhere they dont want to be and often foster parents think that they should be grateful. They are having behavioral and emotional trauma and they miss their siblings. Regardless of how bad of parents mom and dad were, they were their mom and dad. The expectations of the county and private agencies for foster parents are so demanding that if most parents had to comply to those standards or lose their kids, they would lose them. There are alot of good foster parents who are loving. Some are in it for the money only though and are sick and abusive.
