NASA have confirmed that one of the ISS construction missions for Discovery will be retasked in order to service the Hubble Telescope and prolong its lifespan until its replacement arrives early in the next decade. As well as repairing all of the damaged components the satellite will also receive some major upgrades including new cameras - the Cosmic Origins Spectrograph and the Wide Field Camera 3, both for enhancing the studies of the origins of the universe and for delivering even more spectacular images that we have come to expect and cherish from the Hubble programme. By the time it is retired it will be almost twenty five years old making it one of the most important and long serving pieces of equipment in space exploration.

well that was kind of doomed from the moment it took on severe damage during it's launch and an ever tightening squeeze on the purse strings delivered the final death blow....

how about we fly up there, and retro-fit it for DSLR's...imagine the space posts you be putting up then, phil :P

lately, i've fallen horribly behind in my thanks and comments. I'll catch up, but until I do, please know all your kind words are greatly appreciated.
