I can't but you know about that. I keep a pm from Joost so I can use it to respond and thank him for comments. I would like to know what the problem is.
It isn't the number of comments on his page and it isn't the number of users/members on the site. It only takes it 5 seconds or less to tell me that it's finished loading..."Done" is what it says, but I'm staring at a blank screen. I picked a time when there were very few users on the site (less than 50) and tried...it sat there, blank and saying "Done", for FORTY-FIVE MINUTES which is when I hit the back button in absolute give-up mode. And it has never happened to me with anyone else's Profile Page.
I am at a total loss to understand what the problem could be. :(
Mary, I think it must be something to do with you internet settings... maybe you cache is too small or needs emptying or something? Unfortunately I don't know enough about browsers to be of much help; I tried Joost's profile page just a few minutes ago and it worked for me. Hopefully someone who knows about these things can offer some more useful advice.
Thanks, Sam....that sounded like a good idea so I deleted every temporary internet file in my cache, and then deleted all cookies just for good measure.
Caedes: I use Internet Explorer (version 6, I think it is). The problem began (coincidentally) just after the server move, but I don't see how that could have anything to do with so few of us having the same problem happening during the same period in the same way. If it was in any way connected to the server move, wouldn't it have happened to everyone? Sorry to be such a computer-illiterate. :(
I'm much happier now that Joost has PM'd me and I'm able to respond to his comments again, which of course was impossible due to not being able to access his profile page to click on Send PM.
I just accessed Joost's page. However, it took about a minute to load and I have a broadband cable modem connection. Is his karma really 8878? That is crazy. Maybe that is the problem: his karma is so high that the browser has to seek permission from God before the page can load (guess that means you are not in favour up above, Mary).

You must be right about my lack of favour from above, Matt....a 45-minute wait gave me the same blank "done" screen that I got within a few seconds. So there are now four of us with the same problem, and Sherpa tried two different browsers....Somebody up there hates us. :D
I wish it were something so simple, Tracy...I have high speed DSL and it takes only a few seconds for his page to "load" and say "done", but the page doesn't appear. The same thing happens to the other three members who can't access Joost's Profile page.
Thanks, caedes...but now that I feel pretty sure that it isn't my computer that's causing the problem, all the urgency has gone away, so don't worry about fast-forwarding anything on my account. It's not as if you don't already have more than enough to keep your busy at least 25 hours out of every 24. :D
I can still view Joost's profile page, but it takes longer than anyone elses on this site. I have high speed cable internet & it still takes about 20-30 secs to load.
I've got the same problem as Marideath. I can't access Joots profile at all. I'm using IE6, i do only have a 56K connnection but I've left it for around an hour before. Still didnt work...
I have IE6 And i have a computer with 1 Gigabyte of ram, 2.54GHZ processor, and a cable connection rated at 3.0 Megabits per second, which is very very fast, and i still cannot load the page... :(
I am now having a problem with Joost's profile page too. It will only load up to a comment made on 15/03/04. This means I can PM Joost but I can't leave a comment... I haven't had this problem with any other profile, and I don't think I'v changed anything that would have caused this to happen...
I still get a totally blank page for Joost that tells me "Done" when it finishes the alleged loading. Also, on my own profile page, I get only a small portion of the info at the top (stops at the email info line) and the rest is a blank page. Once again, it tells me it's "Done". However, strange as it may seem, in the wee hours of this past Wed.nite (really early Thur.morn) one time, and one time only, my profile page came up in its entirety. Haven't seen that miracle since. Sigh.... I have high hopes that the problem will fix itself once the site has been moved to the new server, but I know so little about computers that I may just be seeing pie in the sky with those hopes. LOL
I remember the days when you could get a burger that size...it was great having grease from ear to ear. Do you make these at home...becuase that looks very real and quite tasty;-)
Just to clarify the reason this problems puzzles me so much...I have high-speed DSL and all the other profile pages on caedes load very quickly indeed for me. Darryl's, for instance, loads in a very few seconds and is probably larger than my profile page. If anyone has a profile page roughly equivalent in size to Joost's, please tell me whose it is and I'll try accessing it and see what happens. Sigh....
By the way, Tracy -- your newest burger thingy looks really great with that background! :)
Thanks, Mary! I can't think for the life of me why you're having trouble accessing Joost's profile page. The only thing like that which has happened to me is on photo.net -- I used to be able to scroll through countless pages, but now at about ten or twelve pages in, the photos disappear. I don't think it's RAM, but perhaps the buffer?
I'm wondering if there's something on Joost's end with his browser or Internet access that conflicts with specific others. I don't know anything about this, but it's beginning to seem as though only certain
members are having problems with this one page.
I also have trouble with this page - although I use the Mozilla Firefox browser so I believe it may be that. Anyone else with difficulties using a rare browser?
Edit: I am having the same trouble as everyone else - Marideth's page down to email, nothing on Johanna's
No, Joost, I still cannot access your profile page. And now I cannot access BJ's page either. My own page I can access only as far as the email address blank -- nothing from there on down. :(
I suggest checking to see if there is an update to your web browser, or try another browser and see if it still happens. I have no problem accessing those profiles with either Safari on my Macs or IE on the PCs.
upload stream of 384 Kbps
download stream of 2560 Kbps
Be patient; those are kilotbits per seconds.. so you have to
divide with 8 if I'm right?
That would make an uploadstream of:
48 kbps
And downloadstream of:
320 kbps.
Now I'm really puzzled. I logged out after my last trip here (just a few minutes ago) and then realized I hadn't checked to see if I could access my profile page. Clicked on my name in the User List and, as a nameless non-member, accessed my page in a very few seconds. (I have hi-speed DSL, 256 Up/640 Down.) I logged back in again and now I can't access the page again. I really don't understand computers at all. :D
I think the problem could be easily solved by limiting the amount of comments per page?(IE splitting long discussions like Joosts and Marys profile into multiple pages)
Sounds like the problem must be with the site after all? I can't imagine why it would be that way though... sounds like a case for the all powerful one...
If Mary and KC do not have the problem when they log on anonymously, that suggests the problem is with their user profiles/names, not with the number of comments or loading time or anything like that...
It no longer comes up for me as a non-member, only did that for a couple or three days. At this point, I cannot access the profile pages of Joost, BJB, kchristine, or my own. To be perfectly truthful, I don't even try to access those pages any more, I find it too frustrating. :D Sigh...
I received more and more PM. from Caedes members who cann't have access on my profile page, the last was Tricky 706, I am sorry, but I think I cann't resolve it myself, sorry . Joost-
I can always get into your page, but it usually takes a very long time. This is presumably because of the large amount of comments (the price of popularity!)

so far it has only been joost and sally's that i'm having trouble with and i didn't do anything different to the computer. it takes me a very long time to get the page and then it comes up blank. this is so frustrating because i would like to comment on beautiful images posted.
FOR THE SECOND TIME I PROPOSE.If is due to the amount of comments(CaptainHero),if it helps you may delete the comments on my profile page.Maybe it helps this way.
I really don't know if that is the reason. However, I have noticed before that profile pages which have more comments do take longer (this is not surprising really). The way that the site works, I can't believe that it is only your page - it doesn't make sense, the coding is the same for everyone.
Perhaps Caedes could build in an automatic archiving system whereby once there are 'x' number of comments on a page then the old ones will disappear (but the option is there to bring them up). This would be similar to the discussion boards where you can only see the latest 25 threads.

I am wondering if it's possible for us to have the option of deleting comments just on our profile pages until another solution for Thank-yous is found? They are VERY important however it isn't necessary for ALL of them to be remain once acknowleged. We could keep the ones that are most special to us from each individual but keep the profile pages easier to access.
i hope to receive an answer from Caedes soon. Caedes said the 04.15 .2004 :" maybe it's just loading slowly because there are so many comments". I wait for posting other images until this problem is resolved.
Last night I coded up an "overflowing page mode" just for you. I'll add it to the site this week when I get a chance. It is designed to limit the number of comments that are displayed at once on a page.
"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts." Bertrand Russell
Well, we should all be able to see Joost's profile now, but when I click to veiw the other page of comments (now over 1600), I have the same problem that Mary did. I have comcast high-speed as well, but it doesn't like me still. Good thing I don't have reason to get in there :-)
I think that the page is just too big when you click view, Luke. And I think that was the problem before. The server probably overflowed its memory (or something like that anyway) trying to gather all the comments! Thanks caedes for the overflow mode :)
It's not the server's error. Either your browser or computer is not able to render the page that the server sends. I'm able to render the page just fine. If you know that you can't view the full page then just don't click on the link.
Agree. I have always been able to view the whole page - sometimes it takes a short while to load. If users can't view it, then there is some sort of limit on their connection, browser, whatever.

users are probably getting a timeout, not sure how to change this setting in a browser, it really doesnt matter, why would you need to see the 5th thank you on johanna's page if you are not Joost?
