How do others feel when faced with a picture with a very 'off' horizon?
I really want to tell the photographer, but can never think of a tactful way to put it!
They really bug me though!
Direct and abrasive approach ...
1) "Nice image ... but ... quick, throw me a life preserver ... I am falling off the page!!"
A little more sarcastic this time ...
2) "Looks great. If I tilt my head on a 45 degree angle."
The obtuse approach ...
3) "I am assuming that you had a severe fall lately and are suffering some type of vertigo, perhaps?"
How I do it ...
"A very fine image, etc., etc. .
Caveats?
If you made a slight adjustment in the horizon ... it would elevate this image, that much more in my humble opinion."
Or ...
"I really like this offering of yours, etc., etc. .
This could just rest with this viewer, but, I notice some horizontal tilt in the image. Nonetheless, this is very nice. Thank you for sharing."
Or ...
"I do notice some ... some horizontal tilt. I would prefer to see it corrected. If you are taking some artistic licence, I can respect that. Just a suggestion, that's all."
I usually say something like, "Maybe it's just me but I think the horizon is slightly tilted? It might look better if you straightened it in Photoshop or similar editing software"
This is a good way to go as there are rare occasions where the horizon actually is level but can appear unbalanced due to the landscape etc.
