Alright… we've all discussed past movies we love, hate, and love to hate.
What about the current crop? What are you looking forward to? What did you put your hand over your eyes and go "omg I can't believe they spent money on that? What have you seen recently and enjoyed… or been drastically disappointed in?
As a public service (to yourself) please do not discuss in detail and give away spoilers of movies most people probably haven't made it to yet. Otherwise I predict mallets & anvils will be in your future. Lots of them. 8•P
Off to watch Casino Royale tomorrow night which, despite my earlier reservations, looks very good indeed. Recently saw District 13 which was quite incredible visually if not so awe inspiring plot wise
movies recently watched on the shiny disc: Ultraviolet (awful in so many respects), X3 (better than you'd imagine it would be) and Transamerica (surprisingly good).

i dunno about Borat… I saw the previews and went "uh… maybe not even when it makes it to cable" But then a reviewer I generally trust and agree with said it's funny… so… … … hmmm… i dunno.
You missed the one review where it says something along the lines of: This is a great movie, blah blah. Whoever thinks this movie is not good or offensive is, blah blah blah blah..notice their grammar *cough umm, look at my grammer!*...the satire is great...blah blah...funny movie..blah blah...
...hey, he gave the commenceing/commencement speach for harvard a few years ago, cant be that bad. ;-) Oh, and the clips were funny. And, every1 that talks about it in my Physics class during break loved it...so, i guess it cant be that bad! >_>
I guess ppl dont like it b/c it continually disses the US? "We support your war on terror!" *crowd goes wild* =P Dunno, havent seen it yet, but i will sooner or later.

Casino Royale - While I haven't ever gotten into the James Bond franchise, there's enough good stuff being said about this, I'm interested in seeing it.
Happy Feet: It's animated, A1 will drag me off to see it 8•P
Let's Go To Prison: Looks interesting, it seems to have exactly the kind of dry humor I like best... I am slightly afraid that it will end up being another one of those "There were 3 good lines in the entire movie and I saw em all in the preview"
Fast Food Nation: Hmm… haven't seen the preview, description doesn't exactly make me want to run right out and buy a ticket. Does have actors I like.
For Your Consideration: Worth seeing if only for Eugene Levy… but maybe not til it makes it to cable.
Bobby: While I've heard there are individual outstanding performances, this is getting so overhyped, and the premise is in that category of "it's been done before" for me. This particular backdrop for it doesn't exactly make me sit up and dance either.
Already released:
Borat: see above
The Santa Clause 3: uh huh. When will the original Miracle on 34th Street be on tv this year?
Flushed Away: I've heard it's got OLD SCHOOL CARTOON VIOLENCE! You know… before they got all P.C. on us. *brings mallet to theater*
Stranger than Fiction: Interesting premise, unfortunately not the cast I would have liked to see. I'll wait to rent the DVD.
Saw III: BAWK BAWK BAWK. I AM A BIG FAT CHICKEN. Thus I do not watch movies like this. AND YOU CAN'T MAKE ME!
Babel: Looks interesting, I hear Pitt's performance is outstanding. Doesn't make me wanna run out and buy a ticket… I'll see it when I see it.
The Departed: Now this I would like to see. Good cast, interesting plot (a serious dramatic Spy vs Spy sort of thing).
The Return: See "Saw III"
The Prestige: Again… interesting premise and a cast I like… I'll go to the theater to see this if the right person/people are coming w/me!
A Good Year: While Russell Crowe has been droolworthy in many roles, this is likely not one of them. Also too much in the mushy chick flick category for my tastes.
As far as future films go - the one that I will be endeavouring to avoid like the plague will be the summer release of Alien vs. Predator 2. How on earth did this get a green light? The first movie was dire, it had a fairly good opening weekend box office take but word travelled fast as to how much it actually stank and it then took another sixteen weeks to double the first two days takings, scraping the production into the black. Now we’re getting a sequel - same writer as before who hasn’t worked in Hollywood since the first movie (speaks volumes that) and because any even marginally sane director has passed on it - the movie will be helmed by a first timer who is by trade a VFX technician…. The tag line for the movies promotional material is: ‘Warring alien and predator races descend on a small town, where unsuspecting residents must band together for any chance of survival’. catchy.
I want to see Flushed Away. Mainly because, in the trailer, it has a really funny screaming slug.
I never really have been bothered about the James Bond films, they're mostly quite samey. But I always see them anyway, whether I feel I should or... because my parents make me. But a blonde James Bond? That defies everything I know. I know it isn't about appearance... but that just makes me uncomfortable.
All my friends have seen Borat on the one night I couldn't do, and they loved it. But now everyone has seen it, I have nobody to go with... BUT MY PARENTS!
well, Sean Connery didnt have any hair of his own, roger moore and timothy dalton had brown hair, george lazenby had whatever colour hair it said on the bottle so that only leaves pierce brosnan who actually had black hair, so im not sure why blonde/ginger should present a problem :-)
I know, but I'm used to them having dark hair. Don't quite know why, but I hate change. Probably because all change in my life has been bad, with a few exceptions. *cough, spain*

If u mean HOSTEL? It is TRULY well done....the plot, the surprises, the gore, etc.
It is NOT a movie that embarrasses you for being stupid enough to see it...it's intelligent...well scripted.
PS: I saw "SAW" and found it STOOOOOPID.
Hostel is not.

I'm up for watching AvP2....only because potentially it could be cool....but like all good things will probably be ruined.
Other than that....nothing on the horizon....though I may watch Transformers just to see how badly they have treated it. Maybe Iron Man as and when it gets made.
Sadly there are a couple of films that may have been great may now be badly compromised. The two Lord of the Rings prequel movies, including the Hobbit, have had their director Peter Jackson and his production company Wingnut removed from the project by New Line Cinema. New Line will not let Jackson produce the movies unless he drops his lawsuit against them for stiffing Wingnut Films of their share of the $3 billion box office takings from the Rings trilogy movies.
sad is right. if someone other than jackson directs the Hobbit, it'll take on a very different, and not necessarily better feel. look no further than the Potter movies
OMFG / I had to see "flushed away" with the kidz yesterday...
and i think watching a real toilet as it flushes is way better than that movie...*YAWNS* GAK!

Don't you hate when materialism gets in the way of things you really enjoy? Like my Animaniacs… cancelled in a dispute between Steven Spielberg and Warner Brothers over the merchandising rights. 8•(
On the upside! They appear to have gotten over it enough to be releasing them on DVD now 8•D *romps excitedly* (yeah, okay, so they're prolly just all scumsucking weasels out to make a few more bucks while they're hard up for the mortgage payment on that 3rd house in aspen)
Alrighty… This week's round…
Opening this week:
Deja Vu: Looks interestingish. If the right people ask me, I'll go watch it in the theater. Denzel Washington is almost always good to watch, rarely has a movie that I look @ the plotline and go "wtf was he thinking?"
Deck The Halls: You're kidding me right? Are you really trying to convince me this isn't some tired rehash of a plotline we've seen over… and over… omg… I'm getting deja vu. 8•P
Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny um. uh. Okay… Jack Black's generally funny… this strikes me as a cross between "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure" and "This Is Spinal Tap". um. er. maybe.
The Fountain: I've seen this movie alternately panned and lauded. Plotline… interesting but overdone… Acting: all reviews call it well done… it's the director (Darren Aronofsky) they have a problem with. While his past work has been quite good, this apparently doesn't quite live up to those and he's gettin killed for it. Which probably means, this is a good movie, a cut above most of em, and he's getting panned for being below his OWN par.
um. okay. so nobody else is gonna say anything? FINE! I'm still gonna babble on.
Opening this week:
The Nativity Story: Said to be beautifully shot and acted, but frankly I've had enough already tyvm. Maybe someday… when I'm no longer depressed from reading NYC news
Van Wilder: The Rise of Taj: Well… um… I dunno. It could be really moronically funny or REALLY REALLY STUPID. 3 guesses which one I think it'll end up being.
Turistas: While this looks like a movie that would normally interest me… going into the holiday season and I get to be on vacation in a week, and tired of NYC news depressing me… I think I'll wait. Round about the 2nd or 3rd week of January I should be ready for the serious stuff again. lol.
MY RECOMMENDATION:
Cartoon Network @ 7:30 Dec 6th: The original version of "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" 8•D
I have to say there's currently a whole bunch of DREK out there… i may post individual opinions later, but this one was so funny it cracked me up.
Last nite one of my sisters was here and for lack of other interest, we decided to watch "Miami Vice" and poke fun at it. I started w/the premise that after S.W.A.T. and Assault on Precint 13, Colin Farrell is absolutely not allowed to star in any more movies that are remakes of movies/shows from previous decades.
This turkey was SO bad… about 40 min in we were hoping they'd get their cover blown so SOMETHING interesting might happen.
53 minutes in, we decided we really didn't care if we ever knew how it ended and the prospect of another hour's worth was more than we could take… and turned it off.

Coz...it was....boring. Honest...{ to me}. I couldn't believe people make such a fuss over it. It was nothing special...nothing even original....{ just my opinion}. Now HOSTEL....THAT..was a good movie...:)
