Does anyone else also think left-handed people take different photographic shots to right-handers?
I would take a bet on some photographers I am now aware of - being left-handed - but maybe my intuition doesn't always work!
i doubt it...if it's true, that gives me a good excuse for why my pics are so dull (excluding the fact i'm too lazy to step out of the car, etc etc). =P
hang on.. you mean if you're left-handed, it really makes that much of a difference? writing, sports, etc i get..but forgive my ignorance..how hard could it be to use your 'other' or lesser-used hand to spin a thumb dial or depress a shutter release? please don't think i'm being rude... i honestly don't understand..
No it's not the practicality of taking the shot that I mean. It is the type of shot, I mean. I often wonder if we 'see' things differently? I find that some of my colleagues who are also left-handed also tend to take 'different' pictures. After all these years, I am probably nearly ambidextrous anyway! :~/
As your hands are only performing the perfunctory mechanical aspect in the photographic process, I wouldn’t have thought it would make any difference at all.
oops, i suppose i misunderstood the direction of your approach. i have heard it said that 'lefties' do think differently on certain things. who knows..maybe, or maybe it's just the person's individuality, and the hand they use is just a convenient 'identifier'..
Actually, honestly, i think the left handed thing is an adapted thing. Like, I use the mouse w/ my right hand, when i SHOULD be using it with my left hand. I'm just used to using one with my right hand. Same with writting, i'm just used to writting with my left hand. =P I bet with 16 years of practice my right hand could be just as good...same goes with baseball, i hit the same way right handed ppl do, but in tennis i hit the way a left handed person is supposed to play. :-S
Other than that, if you write with your left hand, you are of course, automatically smarter. =P
hmmm so does that mean all left handed people were voting on my right handed work?? that would explain the c-index.. LMAO.. *Sorry I couldnt resist the dig a that cos I KNOW at least one person would use this as an excuse for it..
Seriously whether your left handed or right handed when taking a pic doesnt make any difference... whether they see a shot differently has nothing to do with left or right, that is personal preference, I know a lot of right handed people that see scenes etc differently to each other..
First i would like to take a moment to thank keifer for clearing things up on my behalf. It touched me:P. I could possibly see a left handed person putting the subject on one side more often than a right handed person. I think i often lean one way when i compose a shot, so maybe if i was a lefty i would lean the other way. Interesting idea
well, i think i was 4 when i used my right hand to shove a pea-sized pebble up my nose. why, you ask... simple..to see if it fit... and then had to get hauled off to the ER to get it removed... fun times..
I won't be specific (coward!) but I suspect those who take more angular or mathematical shots to be left-handed. Also, as intimated above, placement or main interest on the right hand side (or more awareness of right side of frame) to be left-handers. Also 'darker' images especially of people - and less of the 'pretty' image. Less 'swirly' images - more patterns in nature.
Very boring I know - but we probably are!
I'm a southpaw...I don't know, do you see anything in my gallery that gives that away?...and have you heard that old joke about the left and right side of the brain?...how the left side of the brain is dominant in right-handed people and the right side of the brain dominant in left-handed people, meaning that left-handed people are the only ones in their 'right' mind...yuk, yuk, yuk...
Sorry for my lack of comments and responses lately...I'm waaay behind in both...trying to catch up with a temporary avatar change and a quick but much appreciated note.
hmmm, i'm a righty, and i defintely see things out-of-the box, and love shooting angular and geometrical shots....omg, could it be i've been living a lie..and i'm {gasp} a LEFTY? ;-)
Oh, I can't get left *yuk* out of this one, cause I'm a lefty that bats right, writes left, plays piano with both, sees out of my left eye better than my right, so all my pics are taken with my left eye, even if I'm looking at the bigger screen e.g. squint the right. But I do live on the "right" coast, but my sister who's a righty lives on the left coast...now I'd like to see what's left outta the machine after all that, right? *muah muah* :)PJ
Absolutely agree - (well I would wouldn't I? Being primarly left-handed I also use other media and always draw a face 3/4 or fully facing right. I cannot do the same if the face is turned to the left. I find curves also are right-handed ones and points of interest almost always are on the right or centre ground.
However, possibly the opposite doesn't always prevail for right-handers?
I second...third the idea that lefties draw faces facing left...wait...right. Well from our point of view the face points right, to the 2d person's face, it's left.
The hand is inextricably connected to the brain/mind. I do not know what the ratio of left hander to right hander is but I do know that 20% of Mensa members are south paws and I would imagine the percentage of them overall would be less than this, which would tend to suggest they have superior intelligence.
If this is true my right handedness would explain a lot :)
whoa .. Eve .. careful there .. don't be bandying about statements like that
pretty soon they'll be demanding reparations, parking spots, holidays, traffic lanes on the freeway, express tollbooths, checkout lines at the grocery store, political parties, heck--ANY kind of parties ...
*caedes will have to come up with a special symbol next to their names so that we know to speak to them with deference ... like ... <<theshrew
please .. for the sake of the status quo, we don't need any more status symbols
Any of these lefthander parties - let me know, I will come as
an observer' lol
Google is my friend and it tells me that overall 17% of humans are southpaws. :)

OK guys and gals, when I posed the original question, I did not intend this to become a competition between left-handed people and right-handed people!!
I wonder which side started... ah well, anyway - I thought I detected distinct traits in my own work, which I can sometimes detect in others' work - and wondered if this was a right/left divide!
I guess as has been hinted at above, it could just boil down to a Mensa/non-Mensa divide instead!
Hands up those with an IQ over 140?? LoL!
It all depends on which eye you use. Right eye you get a right handed picture...left eye you get a left handed picture. Both eyes...stereoscopic. Eyes closed...no picture.
