Sorry if this topic has been discussed or this group already exists in some way shape or form, but I think it would be intereting to have a project/competition/group that looks at patterns and high degrees of symmetry in nature. I kinda know this is touched on in other groups such as macro and nature, but to create a short term focus/interest on repeatitive/fractal patterns produced only by natural causes would be an eye-catcher. I could imagine this group would contain a high degree of cropped images, to focus the attention on what matters. For example, ripples on the sand created by the waves, petal arrangements in flowers, fern leaves, spider web with symmetry. It's just an idea .... what does anyone think ?????
there is a gallery for that already kind of - the photography>>textures gallery but a contest to find some new and interesting material for it would be good.
texture gallery might be good - i'll go and check it out. Most textures are repeating patterns - so it could be what I was looking for - it's just I would like it to be derived entirely from mechanisms of nature/biology.....
yep - the texture gallery has some great shots. Ones like Fault in Time, flower, Texture1 and Omaha sands probably match exactly what I was thinking of. Dunno if that makes my initial idea redundant or not? Might be fun to rekindle the fire.....
Sounds like a good idea to me. The best contests usually involve a simple, straightforward premise I find and this is one that should be easy for people to follow and not restrict anyone from taking part.

All you really need to do is post something on the discussion board announcing the contest ("rules", opening and closing dates etc) You can also "submit news" on the front page so people who don't visit the forums will know about it. Advies people to upload their images into the "contests -> current contests" gallery. Then you just need to organise the judging (however you wish to do it) and announce the winners in the forums.
