good question

In midst of nothing, something is. So I ask, "What is this?" Answers come from all around. And I hear, without a sound.

We get to look cool.... =D

More seriously.... We approve images mostly. When a member submits a picture for the user gallery there is a little link right under where you see "Personal Messages (n)" it'll say "User Gallery (n)". I click on the link and I can see all the pictures and there is an "approve" and a "reject" button on all of them. I then click "Process checked". Ta da! The only other thing that I do on a somewhat consistant basis is that I can upgrade images from the user gallery to the Permanant galleries. I can also clean up (delete) pictures from gallerys and move images around and put them in the proper galleries.

Hope that's a little more clear now... =)

If it isn't blatantly offensive or an accidental re-upload you accept it... that's the general rule of thumb... =)

Also, if you upload pictures that you don't have rights to, for example there were some people uploading pictures they found from other wallpaper sites, and claiming they were their own work. Also a few people have tried uploading pictures that come standard with Windows =)

My question for the Moderators: Do you set the orginal "rating" for the images when they hit the user gallery as well?

When images hit the user gallery, they have a rating of 5. After that, it seems that the first vote from anyone, user or mod, becomes the rating. Thus if someone (anyone) rates it a 10, it recieves a 10. The second time the image is rated, it becomes an average. Therefore if an image gets a 10 and a 5, it goes to 7 (the .5 is rounded off on the image display). From then on, it's an average. The mods have no special rating priviledges in this version of the site, but I'm not sure if and how that could change in the new software.

(Just so you know, I'm not entirely sure of this info, it's just my assumptions based on watching the ratings system.)

Thanks! That's what I thought, but some images I have seen out there (that I didn't think were all that bad) had REALLY low ratings like .10. I was just wondering at what level they all started.

Other than for initially rejecting photos for the above-mentioned reasons, I see no rationale for an elite group to be making decisions for the rest of us. Why not have voting for all in three categories -- aesthetics, technique, originality -- using the 10-1 scale already in place. That way a photo can be very high in one, and perhaps not so high in the others, etc., and the reasons clear to all.

The imagemods don't make any decisions about the website, except the basic movement of pics and whether they should be accepted or rejected. As far a the direction in which the site will take that's up to Caedes but I do think he takes advice from anyone that has an idea he likes. An example of this would be this post

(What should we call the new 'supporter' group)

I think the only reason that he even has imagemods is to take a bit of the load of him after all the site does seem to be growing a bit and he probably has other things to do .As far as the voting goes imagemods don't have any special voting power it is the same as you have.
