do any fellow caedes members here have a facebook or a myspace or any of those other journal sites? what do you think about starting a caedes group? let me know what you think
this was brought forth by another member quite recently. this is a community, not just a wallpaper site, but what i think some members might be feeling a need for is a different, or more involved form of interaction. be it in myspace, or wherever have you, there would be more than the current two pics a day, thread-jumping limitations we have here.
i'm only here a few months, and i've met some dynamite (and explosive) people, but it sort of takes a real effort to cultivate anything more than a passing acknowledgement and turn it into a friendship
we could argue that only one site is needed, and i'd understand that. but then, how many here have DevArt accounts? or photosig, or... well, you get the point. i hope..
i'll sit back and wait for someone to come along and try to shoot this or me, down. i know you're out there.

Myspace is a cesspool of needy people .. this is, of course, just my opinion .. :o)
it takes a lot of effort to build an online community .. and while there are some limitations to the caedes environment (family site, image content+size limits .. etc) ... it takes MORE than starting a forum somewhere and saying "HEY everybody, come and chat at my place" ... you can't expect to just pop in someday and steal the membership that has come to exist at one place for a reason .. when you have nothing to offer but an empty hand hidden behind your back
and .. NzglKing .. this ISN'T aimed at you .. it is just an observation of something I have seen many times .. both here and elsewhere
i know ur not aiming it at me ;-) i was just wondering what people's thoughts were in general in response to the idea itself (not about what they though about me starting a group or something) thanks for your responses ;-)
Personally, I am more comfortable with using these forums than a one-on-one conversation with someone I don't really know (which I have tried in the caedes chatroom a few times). To be honest most of the time I don't think people would be able to come up with much to talk about. That being said I have chatted with a few people whom I do know well and correspond in emails with others, but it took a few months of solid correspondance to get to that point...
If others want to communicate through these other things you mention, more power to them. The chatrooms probably the easiest thing to utilise I would have thought but then I don't really know anything about myspace or xanga.
well, using myspace as an example (i'm not really for or against this issue, or 'myspace' as an option) perhaps others might be intersted in such things as photo sharing, networking, and the like. for the record, i dont think myspace has a chat room. i do think there's a certain in-grained resentment at the mere mention of an alternative meeting place or site. this concept could actually be a two-way streetthough, in that people attacted to another forum elsewhere could also be turned on to this site as well.
In my short time here, one thing i've noticed is a very consistant knee-jerk reaction to change, or even the suggestion of it. one might stop and ponder why that is....

MySpace is a hackers paradise...while I can understand wanting to chat with folks, blah blah blah...I know a few brilliant and bored individuals who have "searched" on MySpace. If you wanna set up a Caedes site, just be careful, the more info put onto MySpace, the more info for hackers to get off of MySpace.
