Caedes!!! can we pleeeeeeease get an uplaod limit, like one per hour, cuz all these people keep on uploading like 500 fractals ever second! it's becoming quite a nuisance. Thanks!

I'm inclined to agree at some places. People upload so fast, you can't see some other ones, because they are pushed back so fast.

Or maybe we should have a weekly cap limit...?

No, I think it would be better for a user weekly/daily cap limit

That's a good idea, but then still it would'nt stop somebody from using their entire cap limit at one time, sending other people's pictures back.
or, yeah winternight, i think like 1 picture per hour and like 10 per week or somthing.

Wow, that's really wierd, I was thinking over something like that last night too. Were you thinking how great it would be to get some blueberry pie about an hour ago too? :-p

But seriously, something like that might improve submissions, people will have to be more choosy in what they want to present, and their better work won't get lost in a sea of their similar work.

Totally agree with you xentrik. I have been thinking about for a bit, because lately people have just uploaded huge amounts of simular pictures. And you put it perfectly about saying they will have to choose more wisely what to upload.

I think this would be a good idea for the donation thingie.. If you donate, you can upload more than the people who don't donate (Or uncap the limit).

I agree. I have hesitated to say anything to individual users, but some have recently been flooding the site. I would agree with an upload limit, per week.

HAHAHA! well Xentric, no i wasn't craving any blueberry pie lately(guess ill work on my telepathy =) but now that you mentioned it, i really could go for some.)
But really, yeah i agree, people will have to actually choose the work they upload.
I don't really agree with jaedenbeast cuz people who donate to the site will already be very much into the site, so they wouldn't be likely to have the desire to upload 57 million pictures at once, but i guess it could be a thought...

I've also been wondering what to do about this. On one hand I hear what your saying, but on the other hand I don't want to limit people who want to contribute to the site. Maybe we can change the limit to something like 3 per 10 minutes. We can also change the upload overload message to something like "You've been sending a lot of images. If you send too many at one time it will actually decrease your chances of getting thenm upgraded."

I see, but there generally is no need to upload more than 1 picture in an hour (maybe thats alittle much), say 1 in 30 minutes, because, if its somthings you've spent alot of time on, its not like right after you upload it your going to have another one right there... Also a weekly limit would also be good.
But i see what your saying about that you don't wanna limit those who are contributing. But when people just sit there and upload there life's photo album or whatever, all it does is push back the work that people have spent a lot of time on.

We could possibly limit the number of an author's images which appear on the first page of the 'User gallery'.

Maybe, but then where do you put them? Or is what your thinking is they will appear on the user gallery in time increments? Like every 15/30/60 mins? And I would in any case put a message on, when your uploading too much too soon, like what you said.

yeah thats a good idea too, but then it seems like there would be some kind of "overload" or something on your part caedes... I dunno though.

Not that this would necessarily work, but it may be best to just have an "upload faq" on the upload page that states some of the things we've mentioned here. Potentially, even an agreement everyone must click through once before they can upload for the first time.

Such an faq could run all the way from the 'duh topics' of "no offensive or obscene material", to suggestions like "Remember, this is a wallpaper site, so try to submit images you believe many people would like to have on their computers", and of course, the topic of this discussion, "Quality over quantity; choose one or two favorites and see how they are received by the members."

A gentle reminder like this might help, without actually implementing limits on the users.

If they're anything like me, they won't actually read the faq . . . ;-)

Maybe instead of just having a few new pics or just one you could have a link to the days new uploads.I will agree there does seem to be alot more uploads lately even my girlfriend noticed but to be honest I didn't notice this problem till the post about "Suggestion about Author List Thumbnails", and I think some people might be thinking that if they upload a bunch of stuff their name will get moved up the ladder or something.I hope that you don't limit the uploads because I sometimes upload more than one thing an hour now it don't happen very much but it still would be nice if a guy had that option.I would also hate to see the pics filtered and only certain content allowed cause like I metioned before I do some pretty weird stuff and it would kinda suck if I didnt have a place to display it any more.

First I was going to agree with Xentric, that is a good idea, but tbob has a really good point. All the pictures uploaded for the day could go into a "today's pictures" folder or somthing. Then if they get enough votes over the other pictures they could get moved to the user folder. I'm sure there is someway to set up that system so it would be sensible.
(ooooooo tbob has a girlfriend =P)

By putting them in their own folder, you will have the same issue as putting them in the user gallery - just with another folder. No one would vote on potentially popular pictures in the holding folder for the same reason the same pictures would be overlooked if they were placed in the user gallery.

I was thinking about the whole people not reading an faq thing, but I guess my suggestion was just a way to keep from limiting people automatically in software, but provide some hints. Then if someone gets carried away, they can be referred to the faq, and told something like, you know, you're only hurting your chances.
I know I personally try to give some comments on stuff I really like, but after I've already said "Amazing" or "Incredible" 3 times that day, I get tired of repeating myself and just give a rating instead. And while good ratings are good to have, it's not the same as a comment by someone who loves your work.

I will lengthen this post even more and point out that even if you are limited to one image an hour, there's still 24 hours in a day, and 7 days in a week. In worst case, you'll just have to wait a little longer.

Exactly, and some people will say "well suppose I wanna upload a few good images at once?" Not only is it rare to have a few good pictures all in a row, but it's only fair to give other people some space too.

Yeah, but its not so rare for Yenom, man that guy can upload a bunch of great, pictures. Although, even those you might want to space out, so that everyone can enjoy them more.

About that "Today's Pictures" folder idea. That seem like a good idea, of course it can be built upon. I agree with you xentrik, about saying "incredible" "nice picture" a lot, if they could just be spaced out a bit, they, the uploaders, will get more appreciation for their work, and we will be able to enjoy their work for longer.

Yeah, thats true about Yenom, i noticed he had a bunch of pics in a row, and they wrre all good. But still i mean, im sure he wouldn't of had a fit if he had to wait a while to put each one out.

I'm not sure but I think that Caedes is planning to do the vote thing anyway.I was thinking that they would stay in this area for 12 hours or so just so a guy could see what's new maybe it could be like on the test site but with links for the last 12 hours instead of the last 5 images. But then again it don't solve the mass upload problem you might wind up with the whole start page with nothing but links to the new images. LOL You could set it up as describe above with the exception any one user could only have one link there.Like if I upload a pic the link to that pic is there then I decide to upload another pic the link to the first one gets replaced by a link to the second one. This will hopefully do two things. One you could have your pics seen easily on the start page, plus if their link to the last upload is replaced by the new upload it might be an incentive not to upload so many pics.Another thing you might try is if a user uploads to many in a certain time their link completely disappears, kind of a penalty for going over the set limit.
