Enough of the self congratulatory threads like'favorite works of your own' and 'Do you have an original/good image?' - how about a thread nominating your two favourite contributors to the site - one for technical excellence and one for creative interpretation. a bit like figure skating but without the fixed grins and startled expressions :-)

hmm...this is hard because %99.99 of the people here are amateurs (including myself) and to say that any regular contributors here have technical excellence in any specific area is a stretch. After working with many different programs I've learned that anyone can learn the basics to some of the more popular programs (bryce, photoshop, terragen, etc.) and crank out great looking pics without having technical excellence. This accounts for 99% of the work on caedes.net (BTW - this isn't bad, cause a lot of the work here is good).

As far as creative interpretation goes...we do have a lot of that here. It's too bad we dun have very many who can draw or paint (myself included once more), because some of the best stuff out there comes from people who have the ability and imagination to sculpt in their heads and on paper. All in all, though, there are a lot of people here who have great ideas and do a decent job of portraying those ideas with the limited tools and knowledge that they have.

With all that said here's my top 5 (in no particular order) for each category:

Technical Excellence: moodflow, cain, saily, TRACYJTZ, Frelu
Creative Interpretation: TRACYJTZ, ppigeon, peapod, mayne, jojomercury

It is difficult matter because most of us (99%) are amateurs, trying to make in there own way a nice work. Everyone on Caedes(I love Caedes) does their very best in achieving something good. In my opinion in photography i Isay :Ppigeon, Mayne, Jojomercury,Kjhooo, Samarn.
In the other works I can't judge about the quality because I am supporter but no judger neither a specialist.

very difficult, because you can only get so far on plain technicality or creativity alone, it's always a balance...that said...
T.E.-yenom, cc_beowulf, tbob, ppigeon, samarn
C.I. -cain, peapod, tracyjtz, jojomercury, mckinleyish
but everyone does wonderful on this site, more than can be listed...hence the reason I come back. :)

all fair points but you dont have to be a pro to be technically excellent or creative - for my own choices I'd have to say for T.E. it would be Steb for his marine based work which is a hard subject matter in itself but he carries it off with an amazing clarity and almost unatural quality. For the creative side I'd have to say it would be Samarn who regularly comes up with the goods using his immediate surroundings. I'd like to add to Brett's comment though and congratulate everyone who contributes for the consistently high standard of new and imaginative image work.

I pretty much agree with the names above, and could add a few more.. but I'd like to say that the biggest buzz I get is seeing someone start with OK images, and then, after interaction on this site, their images either continue to improve and/or they pursue really interesting directions. They may be doing this because of the feedback they get (I know I have learnt a lot - though it mightn't show yet!) or just because they become generally more aware and self critical. This may not be what you want for this post, but I'm raising my glass to those who have the courage to keep trying!

All sooooo serious! the thread was just supposed to be a light hearted answer to the back slapping threads that had appeared - I'd have hoped that was apparent from the wording on my original post. ah well....

I think that there are so many great images and creative minds on this site and a wealth of personalities. But in my mind I’m looking at so many of the images here and the amount of professional artist here’ you can get lost in the question. I am more impressed with the ones who have gone from a very basic roots images to a more evolved and impressive pieces. I don’t conceder my self in this do to I am still learning and have a lot of growth ahead me. If I where to pick some out of many it would be the one’s that deserve the recognition for there effort and growth in excellence. For example Marideath who has come a long way in her work’ who shows us that know matter how far we are along in life that you can do anything you put your mind to. She is an inspiration to me. kchristine who has put so much effort and improvement in her work that its amassing TRACYJTZ’ who puts so much determination and thought in her work that it takes her sometime for ever to decide that it’s just right, mckinleysh who has become very adept in Bryce and always strives to become better. But to say that there is someone who is better; is ridiculous. How can you chose out of so many great works that are done by so many wonderful people. You do the site and the people on a miss justice. I appreciate the work on this site and the artist and every day people who put out the effort creativity express in whatever form they pick. You could spend your lifetime viewing and enjoying every image on the site. Well done to you all 10/10! I will apologize though for not mentioning more of you, but there are so many of you, I just wanted to make a point.

Is it possible for us to end this post? It's not a real Caedes contest as of yet and people are going to get hurt bigtime! Names are being thrown around left and right and that really concerns me. If you want this sort of contest then let the games begin but in the usual fashion where it's strictly volunteer for those folks who can handle that excitement. Or, if there will be open nominations, at least let the candidate know and be given the opportunity to respectfully accept or decline. I try to keep an open mind on constructive issues, but as this post stands right now, I don't see much constructive that's going to come of it. Thanks.

--i wasn't aware this was a contest...
the people i mentioned above are those i look up to highly for their expertise...of course it doesn't mean that's all that are good or noteworthy, but the topic given was what is /your/ opinion of /your/ favorite technical-creative artists...if another topic was given i bet i could come up with all the various names on this site. And even then

Of course it's this stuff isn't constructive or anything, but not everything is, some things are just to show your opinion and how you feel and give a kind of thanks to those people's works that you enjoy; that's all it is. I understand it's not constructive but it's certainly not deconstructive either...

that said I think i'm in an argumenitive mood...sorry philc for going terribly serious, I know that wasn't the intention.

-------
Only you know the specific trials and problems you've had to face making an image, and only you know what you learned...noone can take that away. and if you've learned something than no matter what anyone says it is good(if for noone else than just you)
