I'll grant that it's subtle. But, could the apparent reduction in facial lines be due to now having the camera's flash acting as a counterpoint to the, generally above point of view, of the ambient lighting?
sort of... to prove this theory, take a flashlight, and go to the mirror in a room and shine it in youf fave at different angles. you'll be able to see the enhancement or reduction of facial 'texture' depending on the angle.
