Quote ... corporate speak ... Pentax, Japan's oldest maker of single-lens reflex cameras, will become a wholly owned subsidiary, giving Hoya access to its fastest-growing business of medical equipment. The Tokyo-based companies will each have two seats on the new board of six, which will include two outside directors. Pentax, in April, rejected Hoya's offer as it would have smaller representation. .. corporate speak .. .. corporate speak .. .. corporate speak ..
wow, seeing how THK in California is the exclusive distributor of Hoya, as well as Slik, and Tokina..this should be interesting...will Pentaxian's see a trickle effect in more Tokina lenses being made in a Pentax mount, for example?
you have to remember that the filter business is just a very small part of the Hoya portfolio so I'd imagine that would continue unchanged by the acquisition.
Seems that one of the first victims of the merger (aside from the board members corporate seppuku) is the abandonment of any further development of high end gear – in particular the medium format body that was due for release soon. All work will be re-tasked to beginner and intermediate model development only. Shame.
