PhotoAcute Studio

PhotoAcute Studio. If this really works, I want to try it and maybe even buy it!! This would be AMAZING!!! I figured if I'm psyched about this, others would be to. I wonder if you could take enough pics to get the same quality as a 35mm film shot?

I came across this on another forum (not to be told b/c that would make me a Caedes traitor) where everyone said it's impossible to increase the quality unless you use an expensive digital with one of those subpixel shift things that I've never looked into b/c I'm not a millionare but then one guy came along and fired off this website. <-- Don't hate me just b/c I am a pro at run-on sentences.

PS: The trial version doesnt let you save the image. It costs 119 if I wanted to use it with my camera. =(

Alright, the program works...but it only makes an image 2x bigger. I believe you can get the same results using photoshop, which i'm still experimenting with:
1) Bicubic resampling and doubling the resolution
2) Overlapping 2 images
3) Noticed a reduction in noise, but is there really an increase in 'quality' or is step 1 a waste? I would need a certain amount of pixels to read a back of a ramen package from a distance otherwise each pixel would be the size of the word. ;-) *totally confused b/c i dont even know about resampling*

<-- Just tried that and it's kindof hard (nor do i think it works well) b/c the images do not perfectly align so i have to move it around slightly. It does significantly reduce noise though.

What a coincidence! I read this page earlier today and decided to leave a post about it here. I haven’t tried the program yet and admit to being quite sceptical about it because it seems to be technology more suited to astronomy than terrestrial imaging. I will watch this space with interest :-)

That first link doesn't seem to work Noah.

Strange, the "Photoacute Studio" link works on my computer. I have also deleted the cookies/cache/etc and it still works. Maybe the site was temporarily down?

Oh well, it seems to work now... looks like an interesting app, it all sounds quite logical. I guess as long as you always remembered to take several photos of the subject it could be a real boon to a photographer.

Registax, a program used mainly by astronomers...the guy who asked the original question about improving image quality on the 'other site' mentioned this program in his first post...

...I downloaded V3 (I don't think V4 works yet) and used a 200mm lens to take a shot of the moon (spot metering). Using the program, I combined 3 images to come out with a much better final product....i think it's better, though it's mostly a bunch of sharpening. My Moon Before and After.

The after image is markedly better than the before. If Registax gets better results than your regular editing program does then it was worth the download.

I added another example (sharpening) to the link. Like a lot of sharpening (500%; 2.3px radius). Remember, the registax example was my first try at the program; It can probably do a better job than what is shown in my moon 'test'...it's also free. :)

PS: I was going to ask a question (probably embarass myself in the process) on the 'other forum'...ok fine, it's the dpreview forums...but i'd be breaking the rules if I did:
'Age:
We do not allow individuals under the age of 18 to register for our forums, if we suspect or discover that you are under 18 you will have your posting rights removed.'
Ahh, there is a reason that's there. ;-)

I think yesterday’s final is the better one so far. I just wish I had time to try out a new program too.

As for the dpreview forums, just be patient, time fly’s by when you ignore it

One more program that isnt quite related, but if you wanted to blow things up:

Genuine Fractals...but I'm not really into blowing up an image past 100%...but for those of you who do, there's a program to do it.
