I heard the prices may range from $499-$799..depending on the flavor you get. You can buy a nice camera for that. I saw a demo on it...it's just a phone that plays music. Sheesh you can also buy a great stereo for that kinda money. I do have to admit the user friendliness is to be admired.

Now that it's at least 500 bucks...forget it! Geez, i would rather buy a 3ev ND filter (no grad), a doubler, and maybe a flash just for kicks and i still got a few hundred bucks left.
...but i would prefer to get an extra light tent + sleeping necessities...actually i want the ND filter and the tent...i can do without the sleeping bag.
Who needs an iPhone?..anyways, christmas just ended. >_>
It looks prettier than my ppc, but currently, my phone can do all that. I have a full web browser. I can listen to music, watch full movies, even stream tv...which I can also remote control using my phone. I have gps on it. eMule. Full windows office (powerpoint, excel, word, etc). I can make pdf's on my phone, read ebooks...oh, and yeah, it makes phone calls (as well as conference calling)...so...while this is very stylish, to me it offers nothing more than what I already have. Save your money and look to HTC.
Why don't they call their products 'mephone' ... 'mepod' ... 'cause I get the impression its' alllll about appearances and the "hey, look at me and what I have ... " syndrome.
Yes, I need something 'different' with my corn flakes come the 'morrow. >:o/
Ok, admittedly I am biased towards HTC as (so far) their products kick butt (Rob has their smartphone, I have the pocket pc)...and yeah...like Les said...to me, the iPhone IS pretty...pretty and stylish...more than my Wizard, but my Wizard is VERY capable of doing all that the iPhone can and more...and once Tmo gets more G3 networks in place, it will have an even faster connection speed (which currently is pretty darned fast to begin with)...
I'll sacrifice style for power. I can control my home pc remotely from my Wizard, and all the other stuff I mentioned above...and if an app ever comes out to open my garage door with my phone, I 'll be able to add that my list of things it can do.
Because Curt...I have kids!!! How, you ask, does having kids warrant a ppc? If I'm not using it as a phone, I am using it to balance my checkbook, or schedule doc appointments, Tball games, sleepovers, etc. The kids watch cartoons on it in the car, I read ebooks while waiting at the bank. I have a camera with me at all times to snap a pic of the kids....and I can whore Caedes while waiting for them to get out of school...and so much more.

it is undoubtedly another fine piece of kit from Apple and the interface looks about as good as it gets for a smartphone. My initial opinion of it that it isn't really a smartphone as such though - just a really cool new ipod with phone functionality. Details are still very sketchy as to its exact capabilities even on the tech specs section of the Apple site including, crucially, what is the chipset powering it and whether or not it will be powerful to run a skype client or similar on it, a requirement which will soon be a must have on smartphones. All the same, it is most definitely another kick in the teeth to Microsofts Zune who's big launch this week was its 'innovative' ability to be integrated into your cars stereo. Big shame its not exactly innovative or indeed able to integrate with windows media player let alone your car.
I just want it for the touchscreen. If I got that on my current phone, I'd be as happy as a clam. My phone has camera, bluetooth, it can play mp3s (but i can't upload any because my computer doesn't recognise the phone for some reason). I'm happy with that.
But if someone were to give me the phone for free... well, you couldn't really complain.
But I can just play with the touchscreen on my DS. That'll do for now.

ask yourselves this .. are the voices in your head really yours .. don't they sound a lot like Steve Jobs ... iThink if they analyzed voice recordings of his keynote speeches .. phrases, like "Cool" emitted from his soundchip would be found to be heavily laced with aural endorphins keyed to a wavelength picked up by the wetware network he has been building in your synapses via the waxy box coating on Apple's products

Apple (AAPL - commentary - Cramer's Take - Rating) is a great company, but Jim Cramer said he needs to know more about the pricing of the new iPhone before he'd buy the stock up 7% Tuesday.
Cramer said on CNBC's "Stop Trading!" segment that Steve Jobs' tech juggernaut remains one of his top growth stock picks. But he said reports that an 8-gigabyte iPhone will cost $599 with a two-year Cingular contract tell him he "needs to know more" before buying Apple on the heels of Tuesday's $6.11 gain to $91.58.
(STOP TRADING is the name of a show on CNBC .. )
Apple was\is Jim Cramer's number 2 growth stock pick for 2007 ... (Cisco is #3 and the NYSE is #1)
I'd imagine Linksys will get a litigious bitch slapping from Apple's lawyers - pass that popcorn :-) saying that....american trademark laws seam to be very flexible as there are four other companies currently with phone products trademarked as iPhone or variants based on that.
Quote .... Jeez, people need to stop thinking that simply because Apple releases a new product with an "i" in front of it that it's going to sell like crazy.
Apple lovers should be required to wear "iFanboy" shirts around.

The naming of "iThings" started with Apple Computer's introduction of the iMac in May of 1998.
Apple declared the "i" in iMac to stand for "Internet". Attention was given to the out-of-box experience: the user needed to go through only two steps to set up and connect to the Internet. Apple later adopted the "i" prefix across its consumer hardware and software lines, such as the iPod, iBook, iLife, iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, iTunes, iWeb, iWork, iSight, iSync and now, of course, the iPhone. The prefix has caught on for non-Apple Computer products as well.
iPhone...iTunes...iPod...iMac...iThink many iThings Apple iMakes are pretty iCool and innovative, but they're afflicted with the iTendencies of putting the lower case "i" before iEverything...just like McDonald's goes iNuts with the "Mc"...iThink if iSee another dammned iThing with the iStupid "i" in iFront of it...I'll go iCrazy!

Cisco is going to win i bet. They have had it trademarked since 2000. That was before mac was really running with the i this and that thing. They are fairly similar products so there could be confusion. I wouldn't be surprised if apple buys it off of cisco for a good sum to avoid court though.
well, Apple have had the name iMac trademarked since 1995 and renewed it again in 2003 - so yes well before Cisco jumped on the 'i' bandwagon :-)
interestingly, many other companies have iMac as a trademark for various products but Apple seam to have a live and let live policy when it comes to tolerating rip offs.
Mmm, I would also like an iPhone - the only Apple product I'm partial to having. However it seems that you will only be able to get it from Cingular in the US and the prices qouted seem to be with a contract.
Another thing is that the sim card is supposedly hardwired into the phone. So you won't be able to swap that out to change providers or if you are overseas. The cell networks will also have to add certain features to their networks for you to get the most from the iPhone.
'Apple and Cisco have settled that "silly" lawsuit, with Apple agreeing to guarantee the exploration of "interoperability in the areas of security, and consumer and enterprise communications" according to the WSJ. We don't know exactly what that means, but it doesn't sound fantastic for Jobs, who we're sure wanted to have exclusivity over the name without cutting a partnership with Cisco, and didn't want to have to pay a red cent for it. But this does sound a lot like what Cisco wanted initially from Apple, and might possibly wind up in some kind of SIP / VoIP solution that allows iPhones and iPhones to communicate. Apparently both will make use of the trademark in the market (i.e. Apple's and Cisco's iPhones will both continue to be iPhones), and all's well that ends non-litigious.'
