How to Improve?

I'm pretty sure I posted this image before in the R.F.C forum, but that thread is long gone.

Anyway, the reason I post Blue-Red Burst" again is that I'm wondering how I can improve my fireworks shots, seeing as it recently got archived (today or yesterday). I really thought this would be added to the permanent gallery considering the c-index would place it in the top 3. As well, it had a decent amount of views as well (although the downloads were not nearly as good, still not bad though).

So I guess what I'm looking for is any critiques, comments, or thoughts on this image, however big or small. Don't hold back, I'd really like to improve in this aspect of photography as it seems to be one of the most challenging!

Thanks for the critiques and comments! They are so greatly appreciated!

I dunno, I guess I liked it because it was a single burst without any of the smoke from other bursts... I'll give your suggestions a try and if take two turns out well, it might even end up back on here :)

I gave it a shot, I hope you like Blue-Red and Green Bursts. Wasn't able to do much with the buildings, but hopefully the additional fireworks help the look.

Comments and critiques on Blue-Red and Green Bursts would be greatly appreciated!

Hmm, apparently whoever was voting on it didn't like it too much. It was doing pretty good at 9 votes (mid 70's) then vote number 10 tanked it. Came back the next day (yesterday) and it had 19 votes with the c -index still tanked. I find it a little hard to believe that it got the score it got? Is there a way to look at the individual scores it got?

I think there's some weird voting going on at present - so join the puzzled.

no, and not because we haven't asked. apparently we're not mature enough to handle the information..

Hey Matt ... I haven't put any words on your images' page ... yet ... but I think it is a good shot.

I did like Kates' suggestion to crop to the city skyline and lights. But don't think as it is right now that it detracts greatly from a very nice image.

People's taste? *shrugs* Anyone's guess and don't be disheartened ... you have garnered some 'real' comments thus far ... give them some weight in your mind.

Not trying to be dismissive of your thoughts ... make no mistake in my words here. Just some thoughts, 'tis all.

As far as being able to view the individual scores ... that probably isn't a reality. Take a breath ... and post some more great work.

Thanks for the comments and support! It was just kinda odd because the score was exactly the same (I'm pretty sure it was) at vote 10 as it was at vote 19. You're right Les, it's the comments on the image itself that count, not the beleaguered c-index.

Thanks again for the support, it means alot :)

...actually how good you think it is, is all that counts.

When is 2+2, 5? Oh Oh! I know! When the answer is WRONG!

yeah, that's very true. In this case I had modified an image and was looking for some feedback in particular.

It really just goes to show ya how ungood (if that could be a word) the c-index is. But really, even though it's not that good, it's the best thing (simplest and easiest without requiring a major code rework) out there.

I think it would be kind of nice and might add to the value of the c-index if an artist could see the statistical spread of the votes; median, mode and the individual scores as well as the mean (which we already have). I don't think that would be too much to ask since the code already presents the mean.
