Favorites Tally

One thing I would like to see would be to know how many times an image has been faved. Not necessarily, who faved it, just how many times.

I think this would help to counteract some of the discrepancies in C-Indexes, where artists can come to a better conclusion on how an image was received by the community.

Thought? Ideas? Please discuss. :o)

I think it would be too easy for it to become something to compete over, and you would have the same problem with people saying it was just a popularity contest etc...

I’m not asking for it to be considered as part of the criteria for perm status. People should be favoriting an image because it really appeals to them. Of course... I know.. only in a prefect world.

you're probably right.

I guess it might be of benefit if only the artist were able to view their own "tally".

I may be alone, but if there are many like me, it would be very misleading.

The _only_ reason I use the favourites list is to "bookmark" images I want to download later. I also use it if I cannot look at the full size image for some reason or get it in the right size. I actually only just discovered this use so I've only done it once, but I intend to do it again as needed. What gets added to the favourites - on a strictly temporary basis - is completely random and has absolutely nothing to do with my assessment of the image except in the sense that I would not add an image I definitely did not wish to download. But I download a lot of images and the vast majority never see my favourites. Moreover, the ones that do spend an extremely short amount of time there. As soon as I can, I download the image and delete it from my favourites.

I do realise this is not the intended usage, but that's the thing with such functions: people don't necessarily use them as you expect so usage statistics don't necessarily tell you what you think.

I'm with CurtieBear. I'd like to know how many and even who has faved my work. Some people will tell me that a photo has gone to thier favs, which is nice but what about all the people I don't know that didn't tell me. Showing only the artist is fine by me, that way there's no way for it to become a competition.

All comments are appreciated. Constructive criticism is greatly appreciated.

i put works into faves for two reasons. the obvious one being my appreciation of a said piece. the other, is that it provides an additional showcase of sorts. i occasionally look at thefaves galleries of other members, so i assume other look at mine. in doing so, i can re-present images they might've otherwise missed, but perhaps shouldn't have.

Curt, i see where you were going with the tally, but yeah, might turn into another petty mess, and then in turn spawn 100 pro/con threads...

Aye... I've come to that conclusion.

It was a thought though.

howabout a personal page where you can see how many times it has been faved - nobody else can....and probably fit in the c-index votes you've recieved (but that's another thread).

A "Faves" column in ones caedes control would do the trick.

Do you want it to show how many times it has been faved or how many favourites galleries it is currently in?

since an image can only go into a faves gallery once, those numbers would be the same, no?

Not really. If I add an image to my favourites, it will be in there for a very short time and will then be removed. (Don't know if I could readd it as I've never tried.) I keep my favourites empty and only use it for very short-term bookmarking. So the numbers would not necessarily be the same at all.

I imagine it would show the current number. The other wouldn't be possible to program I don't think.
