...yeah, this forum is for random questions that you have and can't find the answer to. I don't think there is already a forum for this and I have a question to ask...so...
What does the "B" stand for? Like N is for Newtons, but what is B!? (I'm referring to B as in the magnetic field, B)
i've read the pages on flux, magnetic field and a field other links on wikipedia and google but i havent found out what the the acronym B stands for. (3 other ppl in my class have tried to search and were unsucessful...so i'm just giving it a try just out of sheer curiousity).
'Magnetic field is usually denoted by the symbol B. Historically, B was called the magnetic flux density or magnetic induction. A distinct quantity, H, was called the magnetic field (strength), and this terminology is still often used to distinguish the two in the context of magnetic materials (non-trivial permeability). Otherwise, however, this distinction is often ignored, and both quantities are frequently referred to as "the magnetic field." (Some authors call H the auxiliary field, instead.)'
Lol...but the question was what does B stand for...N is to Newton as B is to ______. Why did they choose B, not A, or Z, or...some greek letter, or a chinese symbol. But it's looking like this is turning into one of those gr8 mysteries of the world sort of things.
its not a GREAT mystery at all - not everything in life has to be e-speak crap or an abbreviation - as I said originally its just a character used to represent the magnetic field when its used in equations. that’s it. no big mystery. no historical significance. if it makes you feel better think of a word with more than two syllables and tell your schoolmates that’s what it means - the chances of them calling you on it are very slim I suspect.
Hey there Mister Madman, wat'cha know that I don't know
Tell me some crazy stories, let me know who runs this show
Glassy-eyed and laughing, he turns and walks away
Tell me what made you that way
