What about disabling the ability to right clack an image to save it, and add an actual download button, whe you want to keep the image on your computer.

I would prefer a no full size view no comment. You can't judge a picture by a thumbnail. It would slow people down and if they comment they will really have to look at the pic.

Pretty much along the same lines as a "No Comment, No Vote" I would also like to see. But that's a different topic.
The reason I brought this one up, is it would not only help the artist to determin the "popularity" of an image, but it could also be helpful for the mods, from a numbers crunching perspective.
As we already know, just because an image has been viewed full sized doesn't necessarily mean they saved it to their hard-drive. This would just help to refine those numbers a bit.
Another aspect to this could be to help to deter the ripping of images. Yes, people could still use screen captures, which could be countered by using a Caedes watermark on the full sized image. Downloading the image would get you one without the watermark, as well as, added to a list of accounts who have downloaded the image. Add to that, you can't download an image without signing up, and having an account.

Quite often I download images only to delete them later, so even then the download figures would be skewed. :-). Just a thought. For instance, 15 people could have saved an image to disk, and only 7 will have kept them - and of those, perhaps one is using it regularly.
True, but when you download an image, do you just let it sit in a folder to be forgotten, or do you put the image up on your monitor for the day/week?
Myself, I keep them for quite a while. I use a product called Wallpaper Magic which automatically changes my desktop as well acts as my screen saver. So at any point I have no idea what image will be up. Always a treat. But at work, yes an image stays up for a week or two. Often depending on the response of co-workers.
Thats the point of being able to track dl's. It shows that the image is being used.
If the concern is that people may keep downloading am image to "get it's numbers up".
a) that's rather childish...
b) allow an accout to be taged only once for the down load count.

umm ... so if I download it via this button of yours, I am duty-bound to keep it? ... it must forever occupy storage bytes in some location in my domicile? ... so that you can have a number that represents ... what?
I assume, (wrongly, I'm told) .. that a download is a keeper .... there is never going to be a way to determine whether somebody has fallen out-of-love with it at a future date ... just look at the "till death do us part" statistics
under the ["download"] button we would need buttons for
[it used to be "the cat's meow" for me, but not so much anymore]
[i've burned it to CD a month ago and don't even remember it]
[I am selling prints of it in my CAFE-PRESS store, please make more]

if this was already covered, my apologies. in the VB, one can't vote on an image without seeing it full view, so the same "lock" could easily be applied to commenting, I'd imagine...no?
Hi,my name is Rob..ok, so I'm not the greatest at replies and comments. Sorry. For anyone needing to contact me, my email is back up in my profile. >> my cluttered mess of a gallery
The trick is to get people to slow down and open the picture so they can actually see it before commenting. Half look at the thumbnail and that's it. It could be a booger on their screen and they wouldn't know the difference. Watermarking pics may not be a bad idea...not sure for wallpapers but it sure doesn't help me trying to sell pics. May have to unload the gallery one day and lean toward selling them before some one else does.

I have an iMac, which allows me to use a random setting for my wallpapers. They can change every half hour, every 15 mins, every 5 mins (etc). I enjoy it too, but it means I'm constantly waking up the Mac to see what it's showing now...

while the NINJA crew is out thumping the bad guys on the head for ripping ... they can stop by the houses of those folks who have downloaded images .. and check on things ..
like, what's in the fridge .. what kind of fabric softener you use .. how long an image has been exposed to cathode rays

While this is a good idea in theory, the practical difficulties (as I see it) would make it very difficult to implement.
Disabling the right-click is all fine and good, but unless Caedes finds a way to allow the full view to be saved when you click on the DL button (within the full view itself), it would mean that you would have to download the actual image twice - once for the full view, and once with the DL button. Doubling the amount of data which us dail-up users won't appreciate.
With the full view, no comment idea - what happens if someone wants to comment multiple times? The database needed to keep track of which image each user has already viewed, would be huge.
by the way, i just noticed...the smaller version (not quite a thumbnail) which is seen at the top of the image's page, no longer has a right-click block. It can now be copy-pasted. not sure why that is, but also not sure it's a good idea. was this intentional, or just an oversight during the re-structuring?

I think "watermarking" an image for example in a corner would be a good idea. Have the ability to download a non_watermarked image i would think it would mean that you would have to have a mega server with twice the number of images (watermarked ad non-watermarked). Now, can non-members download images or you have to be a member to do that? On another subject, (before my pc died, and thankfully i had a cd copy as back up) i had hundreds of images that i had in a folder which i use not only as a source for wallpaper but also as a screen saver, which is really awesome.
