Before I delete these?

Hi, I have a couple of images which have just been archived. I can accept the "White on White" going down the pan - there's so many good flower pics, I can see how overlapping and better shots make it and mine don't.
The one which upsets me a bit is the "Hungry Sparrows" pic, which I thought had the edge as being a little bit adventurous and quite well taken.
Before I dump them both, I would appreciate your views, especially on the sparrows!
Thanks, Kate

White on White

Hungry Sparrows

First off .. you shouldn't delete something JUST because it was archived .. that sounds a little bit too much like something I would do ... and you don't want to be like me.

You are up against stiff competition in both arenas .. Birds and Flowers .. if you feel strongly about an image you should, by all means, leave it in your gallery ... some of my best works have been archived or receive low scores and it's a constant battle for me to leave them here ... but I still receive comments on archived images and the only way for people to find those images is to peruse my gallery

that's how I know I'm still alive .. I get subscription notices

No disassemble!! Number 5 alive!! 8~D

Per your request, I’ve commented. I also agree with K-Dawg in that I sure wouldn’t delete either due to the high c-index!! Actually, I’ve never deleted any of my postings, I figure if I’m taken up too much room on the site Master Caedes will send over a moving van for me to pack up a few things.

While it looks excellent in the preview, the quality of "Sparrows" is somewhat lacking in the full sized view; it lacks sharpness and is somewhat grainy. "White on white" for my money is a fairly standard flower photo and while there is nothing really wrong with it, there's also nothing outstanding about it that would warrant it's place in the perms IMO.

I think White on White would look good with some dew...use a old spray bottle and you're good to go. (my only flower shot in my gallery is over dewed imho)

i'm shocked they teach you the difference! ;-)

seriously though - don't just trash your work because it's archived - if you like it - keep it, and share it. remember - as with most things in life - in order to keep sane and healthy - it's all about you. there endeth the life lesson for today.

I personally 'ike to delete my archived images, unless i honestly like it - Sity Cuncet for example (i actually don't really like it, but i still like it).

Me looking back i tink that i would be nice to see my first uploads, which, btw, i do not have on file anywhere....they're gone. vanished. poof. gone. forever. lost. bye bye.

that’s the beauty of digital art/photography - eminently disposable or there for life. whichever floats your boat.

Thank you all for your varied comments and advice. Samatar - have you really analysed bird photos in the perm gallery recently? Your comments are a little at variance with some of the photos there currently. Good for you Hottrockin! Wish I had your attitude! PhilcUK - there speaks someone comfortable in the knowledge that rejection is unlikely! Good luck to you all - may your egos stat healthy!

No, I only compared it with what -I- would consider worthy of the perms.

'there speaks someone comfortable in the knowledge that rejection is unlikely'

for that read:

'there speaks someone comfortable in the knowledge that rejection isn't important'

I'd presume that by uploading them in the first place, you were happy with your images too. I don't understand why people see being content with your work at the expense of others opinion as being arrogant or egotisitical. if we all lead our lives worrying about what other people thought of us then we would never do anything. the only ego I can see is of the bruised variety here. I think of all the flower shots I have taken - all but one of them is archived but I keep them because I like them and as Noah pointed out, I rarely archive work also - due to its disposable nature - so I leave older stuff generally as a benchmark for when I do something new and similar.

I like the benchmark idea, too. One good thing about not deleting archived images is that you can sort your gallery by date and then see if your later images seem better than earlier ones and why. That way you more-or-less recognise you're making progress even if all the images are archived. It can kind of give you a sense of getting nearer, even though you're still aways away. Like the old ads for British Rail, "We're getting there". Of course, it would be better if the trains actually arrived but it's still better to know you've only to walk the last couple of miles to Cardiff than all the way from London.
