I'm running Firefox 2.0.0.2 on Mac OS X 10.4.8. I'm not sure whether this is a browser of site issue. Although I have found Firefox 2 crashes more than previous versions, it does not do so repeatedly unless it hates a particularly toxic page. However, this afternoon it _is_ crashing repeatedly. All I have open are a tab for Google and tabs for Caedes. It could be a new "feature" of 2.0.0.2 which is fairly new, but it seemed fine until this afternoon. If there's any reason for this to do with Caedes (which appears to be going through some further updating today), could somebody tell me so I know it is probably not my browser or set-up?
I've had no problems with Firefox on Windows. I upgraded to 2.0.0.2 on my Mac too, and I also haven't seen that crash, although I haven't used it very extensively. It could be that another program on your computer isn't cooperating with Firefox...but other than that, I really don't know.

Thanks. It seems to especially dislike lots of tabs being open, waking from sleep and/or being asked to do something after a period of inactivity. Not sure why. I'm not always getting TalkBack kick in either.
If it isn't the programme or the site, my next guess would be an extension rather than a programme. Mac OS X is _pretty_ good at preventing those kinds of conflicts, whereas extensions are infamously bad at it!
Firefox (on Windows) now has a built in "disable" on a per extension basis ... pretty handy for testing purposes .. it used to be if the author didn't code it in you would have to uninstall it ... of course if it doesn't completely "disable" it you may still have crashes and think you've TESTED
I have Tabs open the length of a football field (in that "only in America" unit of measurement) ... and I have had zero problems that I can attribute to that
opening JAVA or sometimes a FLASH site gives me the willies ... everything just locks up
also .. if I'm loading a tab or two and my connection breaks, firefox becomes braindead and can't resume loading when the connection is re-established .. and I usually close it and start over

As you can see, the chances of it being an extension are basically huge. My extensions have been out of control for a while, although it's only since Firefox 2 that I've been seeing so many crashes.
Incidentally, the disable option for extensions has been in the Mac OS X version for ages - ever since I remember. It seems to work, too. At least, disabling extensions seems to solve problems they are causing, so it must be doing a reasonably good job.

Keifer: ??
noahnott: I didn't create it, Firefox did - I just copied it
Keifer: er... ?? (I've no idea why it's called that - it's a security tool)
timw4mail: hmm... Firefox doesn't think adblock plus is compatible (and it can't find an update)
Honestly .. I would delete all of those .. then add back in the ones you really miss .. SLOWLY ... I would deffinately say your problems are from tee many martoonies
the start-up script probably occupies 200% of the RAM in Europe
when I download extensions .. I save to disk the little .xpi file instead of allowing it to install from the web ... this way I can re-install all of my favorites, without having to hunt them down, should I need to rebuild (something I've had to do in the past) ... you just open the Add-Ons window and drag and drop them on it
I was only asking to eliminate possibilities. That's really all. I know full well the issues extensions can cause and I accept that. I just wanted to know there wasn't a more fundamental issue before dealing with the complexity. (I know I should anyway - it's just not something I'm eager to do!)

Presumably also Talkback? Or did you uninstall it? (Or maybe the Windows version doesn't include that?)
Curious about the enthusiasm for Adblock Plus. There seem to be plenty of people who prefer Adblcok over Adblock Plus and vice-versa. But I can't find any mention of the advantages the latter has over the former. Absent some reason to switch, my policy is: if it ain't broke and it does everything you need, don't change it. (I realise my extension list suggests otherwise, but it is so nonetheless.)
The latest version of ColorZilla doesn't seem to be going down all that well. I would be suspicious of this one just because I'd imagine it would be quite hard to get it to work well for cross-platform support.
Currently fiddling with my extensions, though more out of a desire to do general house-keeping than anything else. I find some of the security related ones (Permit and View Cookies, NoScript, JavaScript Options, Petname Tool etc.) very useful. Some of the enhancements to tabbed browsing are also fantastic.
I'm not sure if Adblock is really doing much. I suspect I'm blocking most of it at an earlier stage.
