I had a picture called "Snoozing" that I added a couple a weeks ago - it was in my caedes control for awhile, but all of a sudden it was gone.. As far as I know I didn't delete it. Got any hints?
Pet's captures are often snapshots. They are strongly discouraged on www.caedes.net because this site was done for artistic wallpapers or works. The new rule is to accept snapshots and quickly remove them after some days/weeks.
the site strongly discourages any and all snapshots however people routinely ignore this and upload them at will presumably in the belief that the rules applies to everyone else and their images aren't snapshots - even when they call them that themselves in the description. many are uploaded by new members who haven’t familiarised themselves with the rules of the site. in this instance they are normally allowed through initially but then get archived off shortly afterwards and mods have started to alert people by posting on the image upload telling the artist that this is going to happen. in an ideal world all of these shots would be rejected outright when they are uploaded but occasionally some slip through the net. processing new uploads is a pretty constant task and so it is hoped that members take some responsibility for their own actions and realise that the site is for creative uploads in a variety of mediums and not a file sharing service for family snaps such as Snapfish or Kodaks sharing galleries which are specifically there for that purpose.

No really - my picture was not a snapshot... And even if people thought it was, I don't think they minded, because it had a 71 c-index. I was told it was also featured on the home page of Caedes, and I don't think they would have put it there if it was a snapshot. I'm sad, cuz it was my favorite picture in my gallery, and other people like it too. It hasn't been archived (it was pretty new) - it just totally disappeared off the site. I had no notes from moderaters asking me to delete it or telling me that was going to happen.... so... I don't know. Thanks to noahnott for standing up for me.
There are TONS (or TONNES) of snapshots in the newimages, and 99.9999983% of them are ignored...some of which i am also guilty for
Noah... say it ain't so. you posted *gasp* snapshots? go do the right thing and delete them, seeing how you feel about the quality of what should be uploaded. and if i mis-read what you wrote, kindly explain, please.
Hi,my name is Rob..ok, so I'm not the greatest at replies and comments. Sorry. For anyone needing to contact me, my email is back up in my profile. >> my cluttered mess of a gallery
I'm back...so i've deleted a bunch of pics that i believe were snapshots and/or not-so-good. They're still there for sum reason, but they should be gone tomorrow morning. I would like to delete my flower pic, the pumpkin pic, and some others but i personally like them and the pumpkin shot was for a contest.
i haven't look at your gallery in a while (sorry, btw) but i'll take you at your word. if you have, then kudos. a tip of my hat to you for backing up your words with deeds

perhaps, but more than a few of my archived images, IMHO, aren't detractions from the display of my talent...rather, a difference in taste on the part of the person who decided to archive them.

Haha, good point! I still get rid of mine though, and truthfully they are not my better images;-) It's kinda like holding on to that tux you wore at graduation lol

From what I have noticed in my gallery, it seems my sub par images are taking the archive route. I think it is slowly happening Rob...we can keep our fingers crossed:-)
my brother wore my dad's old suit from back in his college days to my grandmas church one day as a joke (oh the pictures are rediculus...did you guys really wear those bow ties?). So, anyways, keep your old suits!!!
Anyways, we're kindof drifting off topic. Let me yank it back in place:
So, anyways, about that message that tells ppl their image will be removed, seems like an easy way to prevent all of 'this' trouble (and rather enteraining thread which i actually enjoy).
One more ANYWAYS(!), does ne1 here actually read the 50 pages of photoshop's terms of use or whatever that thing is called? (*dont answer that*). Do you read your camera's manual? (*dont answer that*). Do you really read the footnotes at the bottom of your tax papers? Yes! You do! (aha! you didn't see that comming). Ok, i'm drifitng off topic again.
And, your photo could have been deleted by accident by yourself and you didn't even know it...i doubt it (because some mods have read this thread already), but it happened to sum1 last week (or the week before last, i cant remember).
*noahnott tends to drift off topic often and ramble on; don't let that get in your way.
After some thoughts, I think that your Snoozing is not the worst image I ever saw in the pets gallery. So, it was replaced in the visible gallery and archived.
"A note to all, go the extra step and delete your archived images. Much easier to see your true talent than your steps to learning:-) "
Is this an indication that we are expected to delete out archived images? is this the "decent thing" to do ?
I frequently receive comments on my archived images, seems a shame to bin them when obviously some people are still appreciating them and taking the time to tell me so.
Also,is there anywhere that tells us what our total gallery size is expected to be?
I do periodically delete images which I consider (obviously partly based on the opinions of others) not to be up to par, but if I were to delete all of my archived pictures there would not be many left, and I suspect I would not be the only one in that situation. In fact for some there would be little point in having a gallery, it could well be empty.
On one hand we are told not to be upset when our pictures are archived as only the creme de la creme make it to the "showcase of perfect permanent pictures" and on the other hand it is suggested we delete them !
I must be getting old, everything is getting too complicated . . . .
I think what Mayne meant to say was that it could be a good idea to get rid of your "learning attempts", the images you uploaded while still learning the art (whichever that may be) and is now considered sub-par compared to your other work. This is obviously completely your own choice if you want to or not.
Oh well, seems I am doing what is acceptable then - although "learning the art" I would imagine will be a lifetime task. Aren't we all learning, all the time?
Of course what you consider sub-par whould not necessarily be what I would, and in effect, anything archived is deemed sub-par. I think I am going round in circles :) but it has prompted me to consider a major purge :)
I personally hope that everyone does not delete their "steps to learning". If one is learning, it is incredibly useful - not to say, heartening - to browse the galleries of people whose work you admire and see where they began. It is somewhat intimidating to find galleries in which the apparent first posting is immediately brilliant or a gallery in which everything makes the "permanent" galleries. Or is this just me?
I didn't mean it was part of admiring somebody's work, but that it was helpful and reassuring if one was currently learning. That is, if there is somebody whose work you admire, then looking in her or his gallery and seeing the progression may be helpful/reassuring if one is learning oneself.
It wasn't really all that complicated, was it? Maybe I wasn't very clear...
Analogy: suppose you're training to become a chemist and you occasionally do stupid things or your titration results aren't as accurate as they need to be. Now, suppose you read a biography of a chemist you really admire, describing her or his student days and the occasional stupid things she or he did, and how her or his titration results just weren't as accurate as hoped... and maybe a strategy or tip which helped improve titration skills, for example.
i have lots of archived pictures in my caedes control. somehow i got the idea that since they take up little space, it was ok to leave them for my own purpose (not uploading something i had already uploaded at an earlier time). is my idea incorrect. should we be deleting all images that are archived leaving only those in the galleries. jen
no - you are free to do as you like with your images. personally I tend to periodically delete images only when I think they were poorly conceived or executed. I doubt I felt like that at the time I created them so I guess thats just all part of the development process.
None of my pics was ever delited, and the same is about my friends, so I think I am allowed to say something. I once followed a link to a pic of a beautiful cat, lying on its back, you saw that it was enjoying just life and everything - and it had a notice, that this was a snapshot. I for myself liked this image. The same day I saw in the new image galerie a pic of a very beautiful girl, just smiling into the camera. Nothing about this image was art, just the girl was pretty. It was no snapshot. And there was an image of another cat. It was out of focus. That day I wondered, if the snapshot rule is really fair.
