May i ask why is there a pet catagory when they don't want you post pet pictures. Just wondering about this one. Maybe they should remove that one all together. I understand the reasoning of no pet posts but don't understand why there is a catagory for it. ?? Samdi

The pet category exists because there can be well taken shots of pets with clear artistic intent and execution, and where else would Cat people find shots to use as wallpaper? 8•P

The majority of pet shots that are uploaded generally fall into the "snapshot" category however - "look how cute my dog looks in the laundry basket" - and it's these types of shots that are discouraged.

Cat is correct there isn't a policy of no pets shots - just one for no snapshots of any kind - the pets permanent gallery has many fine examples of well composed pet images such as this or this as opposed to a shot that would be categorised as a snapshot like this.

I noticed that some of my pictures were missing in the archived/pet section.

But with all honesty, I suppose that I should read more. I had no idea that snapshots were frowned upon until recently.

But, on the other hand, it should make people more creative in taking pictures with their pets (I hate to say the word pet, Haunting is like a son to me)

snapshots have always been discouraged .. the policy enforcement has been lukewarm, at best .. and the site is becoming a photo-sharing depository

people just need to ask themselves whether the image being posted could be considered a Quality wallpaper\desktop image by somebody other than themselves ... preferably a large number of people, not just 5 ... and, yes, that can include pets

because THAT is what the site has always been, from its infancy .. and THAT is what brought most members here

My cat appreciates being counted as a person, but says she suspects that the number of felines with computer access is limited. While she enjoys mashing the keyboard, I must say she has shown no interest in joining Caedes or downloading images.

Maybe a change of gallery name would help clear any confusions up? I'm just thinking that many people probably do see "Pets" and jump to the wrong conclusion. Maybe "Domestic Animals" would be clearer? It might also be less ambiguous in other ways (strays are not currently pets and neither are cats in shelters, for example). That would be secondary, though.

Just a thought. What do I know?

I think the galleries would be fine as they are - it's just a matter of people trying to step back and be objective about their images - 99% of people who upload snapshots just dont see them as that - all for purely personal reasons and therein lies the problem - these images tend to then become only of interest to those people with emotional investment in them.

I understand all the above comments and i appreciate you all leaving your comments. I did have one special post of my Dog and cat (True Buddies) then reworked it and posted it as (Handsme and Dakota) I had so many good comments on it and made new friends because of it and its gone from caedes. I know i know Its my opinion and my pic. but it could have very well been a good one for the pet gallery. Oh well!! <> sandi
