My message to flower haters : There is no other object on earth that can provide a photographer with so much variety in form, colour and beauty. An example : Among Dahlias alone there are nearly 25000 varieties. As Lyn before me said try to rise above your prejudice, open your eyes and look properly at the photo instead of giving it a 3 rightaway.
trust me it isnt restricted to flowers. saying that - as is mentioned in various guidelines here - flowers like several other subjects are less likely to be popular due to the saturated nature of the galleries in that area. no one wants to see 25000 shots of slight variations of the same flower if that makes any sense.
That is just the point Phil, there are not 25000 slight variations of the same flower, each flower on this earth is different. No 2 flowers are the same and no 2 interpretations of the same flower could possibly be the same. That is the challenge, to make each image interesting enough to make people want to look at it. Those with eyes closed to the beauty of flowers never will though.A shame that some just think 'yet another flower' and move on to the next pic.
You could say the same thing about bird shots - who wants to look at hundreds of cardinals? Well, I do :)
There are 77 pages of flower pics in the permanent galleries - that is a lot of flowers. Those who strive to meet that standard have a tough job.
you are completely correct Lyn - the same rule applies to most subject matters - endless shots of the same species of bird would be just as likely to create a degree of viewer apathy. most people will look at something from a strictly superficial POV and not take the time to appreciate the subtle differences which makes it harder to create something new and inspiring. the 'too much of a good thing' rule extends to most situations in life.
If you have the time take a look at may gallery. There are quite a few dahlias there. Not one has any similarity with the other ones in colour or form.

Counsel for the defense objects as it is well past dinner time for one defendent and too early for lunch for the other one. Suggest a quick snack outside the court room and a little "keifing" between the two counsels.
