I tried to attempt 'something different' incorporating colour, texture and form (not a flower or a country road in sight lol)HERE and it has failed miserably. I would be grateful for any extra opinions on this one - could I have improved it or is it just a dud?
By what measure are you saying it "failed miserably" ..
1) .. c-index? .. while it won't get you elected supreme leader of the world (you'll still have to grease some palms) .. it is not a "throw yourself in front of a train" score either
2) .. comments? .. I broke my mouse scrolling to the bottom of the page ..
3) .. I like it .. and THAT is the only reason people post images here .. :o)
.. a "style" is not made overnight .. after you've photographed wagons for 10-20 years you begin to think like them .. and it is THOSE photos that people will mortgage their homes for
It's not a dud. Yes, in my opinion it could be improved, but not in terms of "making a bad pic good", but rather, "making a good pic better". I'd make the wheels the entire shot, without the second cart to the left in the frame. Or perhaps, Just one wheel..
If you're saying it failed miserably because of the score it received, that, sadly, is par for the course here with more creative pieces here.
Keith, Lol I do not intend to photograph wagons for the next 20 years - unless I want to set the record for the oldest living photographer of wagon wheels ! Now there's a thought! Maybe I had an affinity to this one, old decrepit and obsolete.
yes it was the c-index I was going by, below average.
Rob, it was not cropped.I did attempt the wheels on their own but they just looked like - well, wheels with no identity. My thoughts about it were the fading blue paint on the wagon - a relic of someone proudly painting their wagon blue all those years ago.
Thanks for your responses guys - and for my next trick - wait for it - (just another) FLOWER !
Probably.
perhaps I didn't properly explain(sorry). don't crop the current shot. try a diff angle, or perspective, where one wheel is much larger, as opposed to a straight-on "broadside" shot.
If we assume that everybody is being "fair" and "balanced" in the booth .. then, possibly, they are saying they wouldn't want in on their desktop .. and .. in theory, only a certain type of person is going to feel a connection to a wagon wheel .. an afficionado of barns, country scenes ..
the Wagonati and Barnocenti of the world will beat a path to your door ..
Yes I did understand what you meant Rob, and the wheels on their own I referred to were separate shots.
Now I am going to sit outside my gate in the rain and wait for a passing wagon :):)Not many about these days !
Lol, i dont think they use them up there. they are having problems with their roads -just too many jaffas with cars - poor things - and expect the rest of us to pay for improvements. Duh. They probably think we really do still use wagons in the wild south.
Noah - point taken :) I was being facetious.
The subject is multifaceted - not immediately apparent - requires some thought - the subject is history, nostalgia, the largest wheel - I dont know!I guess it does not have one -
The subject is the only shot I could get without dozens of feet and legs in it.
Ok, I should change the title - Half An Old Wagon With Its Wheels Chopped Off.
I take it you are not a member of the Wagonati?
naa, i haven't looked into the Wagontis club yet....do they take photos?
Well, anyways... :) I think a c-index of 50 is fair - the colors and what not look good, but the composition needs a little work. Honestly, it would be difficult to pull off a fantastic photo using the wagon, so you did well considering the subject...
...now lets put you on a deserted island with white sandy beaches and left you there for a while - of course you'd get fantastic pics (well, i hope you would).
What's my point...i don't really have one - i was just yappin away.
:)Noah - just to lure you into becoming an afficianado of the Wagonati tribe I am putting together a little mini series especially for your benefit. Your education needs to expand to encompass this intriguing subject, so keep watching. Wheels on wagons - none of them whole, but all with a story to tell.
So I won't have time for the deserted island, sorry :)
I think .. like the old fable of the blind men feeling the elephant and giving a different report of what was in front of them
*caedes should buy an old wagon .. and have it flown out to, say, a beach in Hawaii .. and then fly all of the Caedes-dot-net photographers out there to shoot the same wagon .. putting us all up for 5 days so we all have a chance to capture the wagon sans footprints in the sand
and and and .. then we could submit our best shot for a contest .. we could make it an annual thing ..
Call it the Waikiki Wagonati Woohoo!!
(*name subject to change*)
(*digs out camera*) .. (*holds it up*) .. see? .. I got one .. I qualify to go
