As many of you know, I was diagnosed last year with cervical cancer. I am happy to say (cautiously) that I am in remission. On May 5th, I will be participating in a walk-a-thon here in Fresno to raise money for the American Cancer Society. I am seeking sponsors. If you would like to sponsor me, please PM me and I will give you my paypal info so I can cut a check to ACS. I will be happy to wear a ribbon for anyone who sponsors me, of the name of someone either lost to cancer or who has survived the battle...please include the name in you PM to me. I will happily take pix as proof that my fat @ss is doing the walk-a-thon, and that this is not a get rich quick scam. I would love to do the walk with the backing of my Caedes family, and show that cancer is something that unites us all, even cyber-families from all over the globe.
If anyone is good at photoshop, please make me an image that says Caedes supports ACS (and the web address) or something like that, so that I can scan it to an iron-on and wear it as a tee-shirt.
And please, search out Lauren's thread and keep clicking daily to help donate mammograms to women in need.

Hi Jen! Good luck on your cause! I think that if you post an idea of what kind of cost a sponsor might be looking at, you may have better luck getting sponsors. {JMO}

the cost of a Venti Mocha at Starbucks...so $5 or less. I know I'm not rich, and with the economy sucking, gas prices shooting up daily, unemployment across the country...I'm figuring others may not be rich either. I think nothing of going to Starbucks for a drink, despite being broke...so all I am asking for is that people, me included, give up their coffee fix for one day= $5 to ACS. If enough of us give up that one coffee, I can come to the walk-a-thon with a check to ACS for $50 or more...which ain't to bad for it being website sponsored.
Like I said, I would be more than happy to get some sort of thank you note/receipt, whatever, and take pix proving I did this, and it isn't a scam.
I gotta give up my coffee and beer allowance for a week, just to pay entry to do the walk-a-thon...but it's worth it if it helps to save lives.

Hm, I can probably sponsor some money... when I'm not revising this week I'll see if I can do some extra ironing, and if I can I'll donate £10. Or whatever I get (if Mother dearest gives me a break!!!)

guys, thanks to cat, michael, and lauren, i have $70 for acs...but i'm greedy and want more...can we make it $100 or $150??? if you haven't been affected by cancer somehow, then donate for those who have...michael lost his dad, lauren lost her sister and her daughter was diagnosed...caedes is a family, so if your personal family is cancer free, count yourself blessed, and donate for those in your caedes family who have had cancer change their lives somehow.

besides think about it...to be able to present a check from an online community...i'm guessing that doesn't happen often, so let's show how caedes is a class apart from everyone else...open your hearts...and wallets...

Well, my exams are finally over, right now I'm stuck at school until Richard finishes his Geography exam, and then I'm going home, I'm going to try and get my dad to let me use his PayPal if I can and thn I'm going to send £10 (I think about $20 or so), and then I'll pay him back when I get some money out.

there is a debate between my hubby and i...i think i walked a good 5 miles, he says its just that i'm so out of shape that it feels like 5 miles...so we are compromising at 2 1/2. there are few people walking the wee hours, so i may nap and go back...the walk-a-thon is a 24 hour deal, and i'd signed up for 3 hours. any how...it was fun and i got 4 sponsors, plus 2 from home, so i came bringing $155 to the table...not too shabby.

anyhow...off to bed if i plan on walking again at 2am.

well i went back at 3am, damn was it windy, so i walked for an hour, rested a bit, had some coffee to warm up, then walked until 5. there were only a handful of folks walking the wee hours, but a couple of the campsites had 1-2 people up and cheering or handing out warm drinks. it was a really awesome experience, and i am jazzed to do it again next year. so consider this fair warning...start saving your pennies, because in 2008, i'll be back looking for more sponsors...

and lauren, i think you would've had a blast walking with me...especially in the early morning, the people were really nice and the energy there was just amazing...everyone was so friendly and caring, and it felt so good to hear them cheer me on, or cheer me for being a survivor.

unfortunately there were still more memorial luminaries than survivor t-shirts...BUT...there were quite a few out there walking who were wearing survivor tees...maybe there will be even more survivor tees next year and less luminaries.
