I wondered if anyone here owns a Canon 30D? And is the picture quality better than the XTi? I will keep my lenses. The 30D does feel and look more like a semi-pro camera and I have read alot of good stuff about it on dpreview and other sites, but I trust my family here at Caedes for more honest opinons. Any comments would be helpful, thank's... Gregg
I have a 30d and have used both the 350d and 400d. Not that you'd know from looking at my photos! The handling, functions, speed and low light performance of the 30d (and the price of the 1dmk2n!) are what prompted me to buy it as opposed to any other, and it clearly outshines its smaller cousin in those respects. I would say that if you need the increased speed and additional functions then get the 30d. If not then put the money into more/better quality lenses. Hope this helps.
I’ve been toying with the idea of upgrading my 300D to a 30D. However it’s thought that there will be a replacement for the 30D within months. It's thought that the new one will have a 10meg sensor, and 5 frames a second capture among other things.
As for getting better image quality by going from Xti to 30D. Well, I’ve used both of them, I don’t think the difference in image quality (if any) would justify the change over price.
I agree that waiting for an anticipated newer model is tempting, but the 30d only really improved on the 20d by having a larger screen. Any other differences were not worth mentioning. I think the 30d successor will have the same burst rate of 5 per second, but will have the same self cleaning mechanism as the 400d and I also think that it will incorporate the digic 3 that the 1dmk3 does. I don't feel that an extra meg or 2 makes that much of a difference to be honest so I guess it's just a question of how long you wait for a new model. I waited around 10months personally, but it was certainly worth waiting for!
I had to sell my Canon Digital Rebel XTi so I could pay my mortgage. I got a pretty good price at a camera shop. I went ahead and ordered the Canon 30D from dell.com. It is considered a semi-pro camera like the Nikon D-200. The picture quality is about the same, but the camera is bigger, heavier, built better and look's and feels great. I should have some photos to post by this weekend. Thank you to all who responded. Have a great Holiday weekend....Gregg.
