requesting permission to show art from here

I am setishock admin of computervitals.com a computer help forum. I was looking for some interesting art to use as wallpaper on my new laptop. I googled the subject and here was one of the sites listed. On page one I might add. At any rate, I'm blown away by all of the artwork here. With permission, of course, I'd like to show a few of the finds I made here and post a link back to here. Maybe do a link swap.
I'll check back here to see how my request pans out.

If you want to use specific images on another site, or distribute them, you would need to contact the authors of the images and ask them for permission. If this isn't what you are asking perhaps you could clarify.

There is an affiliates program for link swapping, see the bottom left for more info.

I think the very fact that you've expressed interest in not just the works themselves, but in linking back to the site speaks volumes. This way, not only will the artists get their well-deserved credit, but the site will get a boost too. Classy move on your part.

Caedes.net does not prmit direct links from other sites to the artists' works here on the site. Caedes, himself prohibits this to prevent overworking the server with requests from other folks using links to caedes' art as links on their sites. I hope this doesn't affect your use of the art here.

I think you misunderstand what I have in mind, mar. I never intended to link directly to anything here. Our server has plenty of room and horsepower to handle the pics being directly loaded up to us. Or we use something like photobucket and link back to that. That sort of place is by design, intended for that purpose.
What's messing me up is being told to ask each artist's permission to post a couple of teasers with a link back to this forum. I would think a forum of this nature should have a global permissions form the poster would agree to. Something along the lines of > You agree to let our affiliates post a limited amount of works here in order to direct the viewing public to our site. We in turn here will show a link to the affiliate member's site. <
A static link at a place like mine will net very little traffic. It would be prudent to tease them a bit with a couple of pics in a post. A post of one the pics would go something like this>>>
>PIC<
Like that? I thought it was pretty cool. I was doing a Google search for abstract wallpaper and this was one of the links. www.caedes.net <<<
A harmless tease. They see one of many fine pics done here and you get the traffic. I really don't see the harm in that. But having to chase down one person is time consuming. Can't we come to some sort of agreement that benefits us both?
I'll put you link up as promised. I see mine's up already.

We make an effort to protect our artist's works @ Caedes .. therefore you will need to ask permission of the artist who's work you use as a "teaser"

them's the rules

or .. perhaps you'd like to link your readers to deviantart.com .. they make NO effort to protect their members

The simplest thing to do is probably tag someone like nmsmith or photoimagery who are regular outstanding contributors. They will be most likely to get back to you quickly.

As Keith said, there is alot of effort made here to protect our artist's works. We value the effort they have put into the creation of their images, and every artist here posted an image with the understanding that copyright was limited to specific usage, and would be enforced. While *caedes is the owner of the site, he is not the owner of the images, and cannot blithely change the rules.

All that being said, anyone here is also free to post a "sure go ahead and use my images", and your best approach there is to clearly state in the top of the thread that you would like to use some images from here as a teaser w/a link back. If anyone is interested in allowing you permission, would they please say so, or send you a pm letting you know their images are available for use.

Ok fair enough. But the deviantart comment was uncalled for. I'm not looking to steal any of the artwork here. I'm not a ripper. Just looking to promote both of our sites. Since computer users would rather have a cool looking back drop on their screen instead of something bland I though we could work something out. Not telling you how to run this place but I'd bet real money most of the posters here would contribute one or two of their pics, no strings attached, to help promote the site. Put them in a private forum only the affiliates can get in to and hang some stipulations on using them. Such as you have to give credit to the artist and say where you got it.
But what you're saying is a lot of work on behalf of some one simply wanting to promote your site. I'm doing all the work and you're getting all the traffic. Just take down my link.

Uh... all you would have to do is send the person a PM and wait for a reply. I don't really see how that is so much work, especially if all you want is a few teasers. Personally I'm not too concerned about extra traffic, but it's entirely up to you; we just ask that you follow the same procedure everyone else does and have the common courtesy to ask the person who made the image if you can use it...

I have to agree with Sam. If all you want is a "few" teasers, then it doesn't take that much time to specifically tag 3 or 4 people whose images you want to use and ask for permission.

It's not a sufficient amount of work involved that it should bring this level of resistance to doing it the way everyone else does.

Frankly, I've done it when I needed to, and received permission in under 24 hours (DJ I SWEAR I'LL MAKE IT TO MY PARENTS THIS WEEKEND AND GET YOU STUFF).

You have to take into account too that not all members read the discussion boards in fact very few do, so the art that you want to use chances are they haven't even read your request.. therefore if you used it without asking the artist, they'll let the chihuahua's out.. Don't get me wrong.. I think it's good that you came here and asked permission very few people do.. Most artists on here would probably let you use the art as long as you ask them.. and I have to agree with Sam & Cat, you say you only want a "few" teasers, that wouldn't take long to type the note, copy and paste it onto the artists you want to use..
