First web site

I have just uploaded my first attempt at a website. I would appreciate it if some of you would have a look and let me know if there are any mistakes, improvements you can suggest etc. I also have a few specific things I need help with: Firstly, in the final paragraph ("Contacts") I had to use a photoshop image for the text because FrontPage was formatting it incorrectly. It insisted on leaving a line when I pressed enter (ie it looks the same as the "Links" paragraph), even though the formatting etc. all seems to be set to normal. Also, I want to put a background image rather then plain white, but the images (made in PS) have a white background which shows up and ruins the look. Is there any way I can make the images have a transperant background? THey are JPG, nut I don't mind using a different format if necessary. Thanks for your help guys.

In my typical impatient style, I have gone ahead and added the background anyway. At least now you should be able to see what I meant about the JPG's now.

The site looks good for a fist attempt. You can use gif images, which would allow for a transparent background. Also I would suggest not using the buttons more than once on a page. Perhaps change your site so each section is on a different page.

Apart from that great job!

Thanks for that info. I knew there was a way to make them transparent but I haven't used gif's for years so had forgotten. I have updated with the GIF's instead. Only problem is they do reduce the quality somewhat, is there any way to avoid that? If not I will just continue using JPG's for the fancy bits.

As far as using seperate pages, I didn't really think it was necessary due to the small amount of info on the page... also I don't know how yet, but only because I haven't tried. What do other people think?

If the page is longer than one screen and the information is topically partitioned anyway, then it should be broken up into multiple pages.

Thanks for the info. I might just do that when I figure out how.

No, I just made the site for him. It isn't listed on any search engines yet and the address isn't advertised yet, so I still have some time to work on it before any clients are likely to use it.

* move background image to RHS
* Headers should be a little larger/bolder/something to separate from body text
* I would reorganise 2nd list on home page to 2 columns, IMHO.
* love the tertiay purple.

Thanks Joost! Mum42: Duly noted and acted upon, except the background. Does anyone know how to align the background image with the right hand side of the screen, rather than the left, so the image isn't cut off at lower resolutions? (using frontpage)

You have to use CSS positioning to do that. I don't know if Frontpage knows much CSS considering that Microsoft's browser does such a bad job of parsing it.
