I have disappointing vote results for these two images A Window . . . (49 ) and I See Skies . . . (51) and would appreciate any suggestions as to how I may have improved them, and where they fail to impress. Both these shots I took some time over composition with wallpaper in mind, and spent time adding frames. Perhaps the frames are their downfall? perhaps they are just bad pictures. Please tell me ! :)
I am not questioning the C-index results, rather trying to learn from them. My expectations were obviously too high, but I thought they may have scraped in at round about 60. Am I in cloud cuckoo land ?

The Images: .. I like both images .. I like the use of foreground and composition .. but, to my eye, if you consider a foreground element to be a "lead-in" to the actual "meat" of the matter (as I do) .. then the "subjects" of both images, the blue sky, fails to deliver .. but, that's a nit-picky criticism of what is, otherwise, beautiful blue sky

The Frames: ... I think that a frame can make or break an image, depending on viewer preference .. and while I would never want to say anything that would lead you to believe I am suggesting you NOT follow your bliss ... most people tend to create frames that detract from the image .. when a subtle nudge is needed, they use a sledgehammer ..

Disclaimer .. the comments found above are those of their author, if you found them sound .. if you found them wanting, then they were copied\pasted from the internets .. but either way, they are not necessarily the views of caedes.net

Eve, I like both images but alas, I have not gotten them in the voting booth :(..'A Window' is very impressive to me..the framing makes it appear that the viewer is looking out of a window. I like that. "I See Skies" is very blue (obviously) and the framing makes it appear to sit on top of the frame rather than within it. I presume this was your intention. There is a lot of space in 'I See Skies",but both are really yummy images, in my opinion. ;-)

I think they are both good. It's that c-index thing...it's being ravaged. I had to check it and make sure it went over six.

Thanks Keith - yes the blue sky was intended to be the subject of the Blue Skies one - is it too boring? should I have intensified the colour (and made it unnatural) "Not a cloud in the sky" - perhaps would have been better if there had been? I am not sure what the subject of the other one was - the sea I think.
Are my frames sledgehammers?

Mimi - thanks for having a look. Yes there was probably too much sky in one of them - it was just such an amazing clear blue that day. Just like summer. Today it is winter. I am just about to post a picture of it.
No frame :)

Jerry - can mandroids deal with ravagers? Or shall I send in the triffids :)

No .. I could link to one in recent 'new images' history, but I won't .. what I meant by the Hammer de Sledge remark is that people doing frames tend to think they need something grandiose*, overthetop*, ornate*, colorful* .. when often a subtle, understated, touch is best ..

Doing proper frames is an art unto itself, and far be it for me to say what is right ... but I prolly will

even if you posted an image with a frame .. then a couple weeks later, posted the same image without a frame .. the difference in scores couldn't be trusted to give you a definitive 'opinion poll' on the "F" word ... but it is your only way to experiment

I really like those 2 images.. the colours are stunning.. as for the frame work.. i think they compliment the images.. some people's frame work looks absolutely dreadful and ruins the image.. but I have to say.. yours always blend in beautifully.. but some people don't like them so its really damned if you do and damned if you don't...

Lyn, you know that the c-index ia a thing that even Einstein won't be able to work out. Some of the voters, for instance, are first-timers, some hold the curser steady over the 3, some don't like frames, some don't like flowers and many are in a hurry to finish off their 10 votes so that they can upload their own photos and in the process don't even look properly at what they are voting on. I bet you if it wasn't compulsory to click on full view before voting on a picture most voters would vote without seeing the full view. So how can you count on a sensible score? I found both your above photos quite good and can only say that for the reasons already mentioned they didn't quite reach the expected heights.
