I will now bring an old thread to the present . . . go ahead and shoot it won't hurt me but you might feel better.

Shows such as Futurama, Family Guy, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Lupin III, and Sealab 2021 are repulsive to me. They are disgusting and moronic. I am dizzy and nauseous enough without them thank you very much. Talk about offensive. I will never understand people who enjoy this sort of humor. It is degrading to the entire human race that we are even capable of conceiving of such base ideas. Yes, I'm opinionated, but if you aren't then you don't care and if you don't care you're not really living, are you? And yes I'm a conservative go ahead and burn me at the stake but remember that if liberals can't have their ideas suppressed or cesured then conservatives have the same right unless you have a double standard so shut up and let me talk. Those shows screw with our heads and make us think less good stuff. Very intellectual statement there but you get the point.

However, Adult Swim does have a few wonderful shows that I willingly plunge into the depths of sleep deprivation to experience. I like Cowboy Bebop though it isn't the best. I like Case Closed--just a kid's show in a way but I like it. It's pretty neat. The ones that are really the best are Inu-Yasha and Trigun. IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THESE YOU HAVE MISSED SOMETHING WONDERFUL. I can't really explain why they're so great but they are. My mom keeps saying she can't believe I care so much about cartoons. Can you believe she called anime cartoons! Most anime is far better than any American cartoons, both in form and content. Maybe the Japanese know something we don't. I asked for Inu-Yasha and Trigun manga for my 19th birthday (Monday 27th) and she thinks I'm nuts. Then again, everyone who knows me things I'm crazy and they're afraid to talk to me about things. Except Chris. What was I talking about? Oh, Adult Swim. Well, there are so many horrible ones and so many wonderful ones with so little mediocrity that I'm rather astounded. It's weird. Like me. But at least they don't generally mix the good stuff w/the rotten . . . although I will never understand or like Miroku's antics. He makes me sick.

Anyway . . . yeah, so does anyone else share my opinions?

Hey Otaku--I agree w/you about CrazyIvan's icon. LOTR rocks . . . can you tell I have diverse interests . . . ? Especially considering my weaknesses for cats and glittery stuff . . .

Otaku, do they really cut Inu-Yasha? I'm going to have to take up Phil on his offer and go over to watch it there . . . he's got seasons on DVD and VHS . . . exactly what is it that they could cut that could be worse than some of the nasty stuff on the other shows? That stuff sucks worse than violence ever could.

Anyway, Otaku, it's okay, I'm a nerd too. I know you read my looooooooooooong post in the "who are you?" thread so I guess you can tell. I have found that often the people with the best interests and most worthwhile opinions are the people that most people would call nerds so maybe it's the not-nerds that suck not us.

You see, violence can possible be for a good reason. Don't get me wrong, because in and of itself, violence is horrible. However, sometimes it is necessary. Like one scene in The Two Towers move from LOTR where you see dead Orcs and dead Elves and dead Men and dead little boys and you think of the futility . . . but think if the Elves and Men and Ents hadn't fought back, what would have happened? If you fight to preserve life, it's still horrible, but it's necessary and it also is sometimes good to watch stuff with it so we don't forget what it's like and so we are reminded of what is worth such a horrible occupation.

In deep contrast, there is NO purpose whatsoever to the disgusting and degrading aspects of the shows I have previously listed. They are supposed to entertain a mind too jello-ed to do much but react on a limited level so they have to be gross and stupid. What does this teach us? How we improve ourselves with such garbage? When the greeaaat land of America (yes that's sarcastic) decided to have freedom of expression they didn't mean all this. All they intended was keeping the government from stopping people from expressing ideas within the realm of decency.

THINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HOW IS THAT STUFF ANY CREDIT OR HELP TO US?!?!?!

AND IF YOU ARE NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS THAT SERIOUSLY YOU ARE TOO SHALLOW TO DISCUSS IT SO DON'T BOTHER !!!!!!!

Think about THAT!

Ok first Violence is never justicified. I understand your point of defense to prevent more innocent death but otherwise it isn't nessicary. Secondly the lord of the Rings was written by a Catholic man and is describing the orcs as the evils of the world. And with its great story Man finally came together with elves, hobbits, men, and dwarfs fighting side by side to defeat evil. Not to kill innocent people.

But the shows you refer to, that kind of defense is not what is intended. Those shows make little kills think that fighting is cool. And heroic and just. Its not like that at all.

THINK ABOUT THAT!! haha. You see my point?

As for the other shows ..that's America brother. That's what serates america from everyone else ...its disgust and burtal country. ..So-called land of justice and Freedom. This is a land where justice is a game and freedom is a propaganda.

Think Differently.

Then maybe I'm going to go get myself denaturalized if that's America. Just that it's America is the lamest excuse for perversity I have ever heard in my life.

And what's wrong with Catholic?

And as for the shows I like, maybe they are violent but let me just say that
IF YOU DO NOT SEE THE PURPOSE, THE NECESSARY VIOLENCE IN THESE SHOWS THEN YOU EITHER ARE INCREDIBLY DENSE, AREN'T LOOKING, OR JUST DO NOT WANT TO SEE.

Just like in LOTR they're trying to fight evil. If you can't see that then I truly wish you would try because I don't like seeing people insist without thinking it through very well. In your best interests and I'm trying very hard not to come off as condescending because that is not my intent. And before you attack me, I HAVE thought it through. I have not been able to experience anything without analyzing it exhaustively since I was fourteen and have spent a large number of my waking hours every day doing just that. I cannot live a shallow life. I must consider the deeper purpose of everything or I risk not only not having reason to get up in the morning but also of deciding to kill myself. I suffer from a medical condition of depression and I am forced to find meaning in everything if I am going to find meaning in anything (speaking of good or bad meaning. I'm not trying to say everything has some good in it. everything certainly does not. some do, some don't). If you really, honestly think the same as you do now, or if you have already honestly thought it through, I can't change that nor do I have the right. But I believe that if you pay correct attention to the storylines in the shows I've named as good ones you'll realize that the ultimate purpose of all the violence is to protect innocent people. And maybe the violence is portrayed as cool but deep down I know very well it isn't and am not impressionated by it.

Please think. I'm tired of people who have opinions just because they're the ones that are popular to have.

Does anyone else have anything to say? On my side or Sean's?

DUde thats what I said! They were fighting evil! ANd abousoluting nothing is wrong with catholic! IM CATHOLIC!! And ok I pretty much agree with you. And I was wrong to say what I said. For I haven't seen too many of those shows. And obiously you misunderstood my statement of lord of the rings because that movie is one of the few to actually have meaning in these times. And believe me my opinion is NOT because its the more popular opinion. And I'm tired of those opinions too!!! For one I'm a democrate. I listen not to rap or pop, but meaningful music such as bands like: Dream Theater, Bob Dylan, and a bunch that are far from popular. And I'm sure that those shows you watch aren't what I acused them as. But for say Futurama I know it doesn't have the best spirital beliefs as far as God but I don't think that I would call it offense ..not nearly as much as others.

I dont watch TV but I have a friend who watches futurama and aqua teen hunger force. Which, unlike your karate cartoons Elizabeth, are full of satire, extended metaphors and intellectual humor that is not shallow, and takes some mental ability to understand the humor. You probably simply dont get them. My friend Tyler who watches them is a very intellectual conservative, and definitly the opposite of shallow. I think it would be more shallow to get kicks from watching still frame fighting cartoons.
But then again, I dont watch TV much myself.

and i dunno about that whole anime versus american cartoons deal. anime is nice and all, but I used to watch the batman series when I was younger before it moved to WB and the artists changed and it became more kiddie cartoony. It was fairly realistic, well drawn, and the action scenes were played out.
If when batman went to fight, he jumped up into the air, and all of a sudden the scene behind him disappeared to black and lighting and colorful imagery popped up behind him, he did alil dance in air, then paused in mid air and shot fire out of his arse. I think I would have stopped watching the show.

Sorry I haven't posted all weekend--my net's down and I only have access at school. But this is better anyway (university high-speed rocks).

I had no taste as a child and really don't remember the quality of what I watched. I watch anime because I was flipping around one night and saw a show and liked it and mentioned it to a friend and he got me hooked into the stuff he recommended.

Thanks for the comment on my intelligence, Anthony . . . guess a little thing like a 28 on an ACT means nothing whatsoever . . . okay I know it doesn't mean anything about satire but still I can understand it perfectly well. I just don't like it. Especially since I like things that are generally serious with the humor as an afterthought, not the other way. Things that are entirely humor or even mostly I just don't relate to because my life isn't all happy. Not implying yours is, but struggling with mental illness and my dad's killing himself make it hard to laugh at a dumb meatball a lot of the time. Okay I'll quit whining. Sorry. But I thought I'd just let you know why I have such an aversion.
