I am thinking of purchasing the Rebel xti and am wondering what lense would be best for an overall good starter lense that doesn't come with the camera? I think I would rather purchase a better lense and skip the one they have. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jodie Not too spendy!

A popular do-it-all lens seems to be the Tamron 18-200. For the same money, you can get an entry-level Canon 28-300. It won't be the greatest lens, but it'll give you plenty of different focal lengths to shoot (and learn) with.

I'm hearing good things about the 17-55 mm ; , looking at your gallery I think it will meet your criteria .

EF-S 17-85mm f4-5.6 IS USM. Slightly pricey but a lens that suits the subjects you shoot and one that you won’t be likely to outgrow.

Thanks Guys, I have some to think about. I am hopefully ordering this next week. The camera is suppose to be on sale at Ritz this coming week so I will get it for a pretty fair price without shipping hassels.
