i'll be leaving for africa on july 31st. my cameras are a canon 10D and a canon 5D. any suggestions on which lenses and filters might be best. the trip planner said to bring a bean bag instead of a tripod. what do you think of that. plus, what kind of settings would you suggest? this is such a great opportunity and i know i'm going to blow it..........................................
also, we'll have 24 hours in amsterdam because of connections. my question is having just spent 5 wonderful days in amsterdam should we stay in the city again or get a room near the hotel and drive somewhere interesting........like where? thanks to those who try to help.
For Africa, take your best quality telephoto lens. Ie: a good 200mm will get a better shot than a cheap 300mm. Also take a wide angle for landscapes and your favourite walkabout lens. I would be taking my tripod as well as the beanbag. Lets face it yesterdays sock filled with anything handy, grass, straw, sand etc makes a great beanbag :-)
For settings in Africa I presume you will be chasing wildlfe? Try to keep the shutter speed high, iso 400 or more, aperture F/5.6 would be a good starting point. For landscapes do the opposite. Use the lowest iso you have aperture F/16 or less and use that tripod you shouldnt take.
