I got an okayish shot of a peacock this weekend, I uploaded it to the site a few days ago. It got quite a high c-index (especially for my work!), reaching a peak of 81, I think it is now 78. I thought this was pretty good, considering I wasn't too sure on the shot myself, there was something different about it but it just seemed so... ordinary. It only got 4 comments. Can anyone tell me what I can do to improve it? I know it can be improved despite the c-index, I have found they sometimes lie and I know this image isn't right. Any help?
Done :)
I agree about the frame. It is a wonderful picture and the colours really glow. A slight Gamma adjustment perhaps would intensify the luminosity and seems to make the 'eyes' float/
as you requested, here's some critical input.
the black border, I'm guessing, was intended to lend a "filmstrip" feel, and I like it, actually. I can only find two points to work on.
the first might be beyond your control. that's the bird's chest feathers..the focus on them is a bit soft. try unsharp mask, but the showytail feathers are nice and sharp, so perhaps the DOF needs to be corrected in future shots with a slightly tighter f-stop for greater depth.
The other thing is the lighting. try lowering the gamma levels just a bit. I'd recommend reducing the cyan channel for starters.
it is a great shot .. the quintessential arrangement of peacock colored pixels
.. a few nitpicks
focus\sharpness: .. as Rob said, but I feel the tail feathers could also use some attention .. be careful, though .. too much and those 'fibers' will amplify
horizon: .. :o) .. the image tilts to the right .. and I need to fight the urge to yell: "Rogue Wave!" and grab the bird to keep it from being tossed about on the high seas
Thanks guys ^_^ I thought it was a little off, I maybe should have spent a little more time but my mum wanted me to upload it to see what everyone thought... trust my mum.
