gamma is married to gampa .. and, by hook or by crook, led to you being here
gamma, to me, is a combination of brightness + contrast .. as those are the qualities that I see changing during adjustment .. It is all part of the whole "monitor calibration" doohicky
Randy recommends Pantone: Huey for his calibration needs .. (we are monitoring his bank accts for PAYOLA deposits)
gamma is basically how brightly a device displays midtones, adjusting brightness moves both the black and white point up (so blacks become more grey and grey becomes more white) whereas adjusting gamma moves the midtones (usually 18% grey or there abouts) either more towards white or towards black... about as clear as mud?
That second comment was mine, if I'm not mistaken. I was referring to a specific adjustment to the photo. Typically, in color editing, channels are red, blue, cyan, magenta, green, and yellow. Other programs also include purple and orange. It's a combination of saturation, tint, and luminosity, as I understand it, although I might be slightly off.
thanks, rob! it was your comment and lynn's that got me thinking. so (i'm so dumb) where exactly in PS is this to be found. is it hue and saturation or is there somewhere else i'd be likely to find it. thanks so much for helping. maybe it's something i need to do.
