HELP!!!

Now that I have the basics (and I mean the basic basics) down, I have decided to start on my own website. The thing that is driving me insane is using tables. Every time I try to adjust the size of a feild, it messes upt the format of the entire table. Often it will not let me adjust the size. The "Specify height/width" boxes are constantly checked, no matter how many times I uncheck them. I can't add new feilds without evrything else being completely messed up; it is driving me CRAZY!!! Does anyone have any idea how I can stop these things from happening? Is frontpage just badly designed? What I want to do seems so simple to me, but it has taken me half the day just to create a table with 14 cells in it...

If you want to have a look I have uploaded it for you all to laugh at... please note it is nowhere near finished, I spent so much time fiddling with that stupid table I haven't even thought about aesthetics yet...

Hint: Frontpage not only sucks, but you run the risk of being laughed at for using it. The only WYSIWYG editor I've ever used is DreamWeaver, so I recomend either that or just a code editor (try SciTE).

Dreamweaver is a free download isn't it? I will try to get it today, although I am getting the hang of frontpage now. Is the site really that bad?? I think I will avoid the code only editors, I need to be able to see what I'm doing I think. Thanks for the help.

Dreamweaver isn't free, but it might have a trial period.

Sam Try Max's HTML Beauty from http://www.htmlbeauty.com/. Its totally free and quite capable. Front page is much too quirky.

There are three colours, Ten digits and seven notes, its what we do with them that’s important. Ruth Ross

Thanks Trisbert, but I already have a free HTML editor; I really need one like Frontpage where I can do things visually, rather than in code. I did D/L HTML Beauty but it looks like it only works in code format... I have pretty much finished the site for now, until it is available online and I get some feedback on how to improve it. Hopefully by then I will have obtained a copy of Dreamweaver.

If you are working with tables in FP, I find it best too use the percentage option rather than pixels, just make sure the total value of the table/cells is no more than 100% & you should be fine.

FrontPage may be the underdog/laughed at software in the website editor world, but for a beginner its a good place too start & can help teach you the basics of website construction.

Stick with it & just play offline till you get too grips with it.

Well I have uploaded the site today... a few minor glitches but I have fixed most of them... I will still try to get a hold of dreamweaver though...

is there a new link? The one at the top doesnt work. And I use Dreamweaver too (like caedes). It's great, but im not sure if Adobe Go Live is better, it might be but i have never used it. And yes, tables are the most annoying thing in HTML, they never to what you want, even in dreamweaver the can be a pain in the neck.

As for dreamweaver I agree with you! I just got it and I found that the tables are still a great nuisance. In the end I used Frontpage to do some bits and dreamweaver for the others...

hey, not bad. This cant be the same home page Caedes commented on, is it?
I think it's pretty good. Im not really a big fan of the horizontal scrolling though.

Somebody up above said use % instead of pixels, i disagree. I set my webpages to a certain width (to fit to at least 800/600 res.). I find pixels a lot simpler to work with and think about.

Also even though you may have had an easier time with some things in Frontpage i wouldn't recomend that either. The program screws your code up so bad its not funny. So if you ever want to do somthing manually, you'll never be able to find it. Maybe you just need to get used to using Dreamweaver. good luck
